Many of the jeeps were named after trucks in thier company. I have no details on them but I remember seeing 359th's "Lil Brutus" and 541st's "Duece's Baby Son", from Dueces Wild. I'm sure someone on the Guntrucks site could help out. 64th had "Lil Hearse" named after Ho Chi's Hearse. I have...
Driver, I think you may right about Animals and Tarkus. That sure looks like the twin 60 setup that Roger Holley put on the Animals. I kind of hurts my feelings that someone didn't like the name Highland Animals but it wouldn't be the first time it's name changed. Maybe I'm just too sensitive. LOL
Glad you're building the early Animals. Those 4 pics you posted are from my album on the Guntrucks site. The one with 3 guys beside the truck, that's me on the left.
Hey Smoke, I served on 2 guntrucks in VN, Highland Animals and Mighty Minny, we stuck everything you can imagine on our trucks. If that 37MM had been available I'm sure someone would have tried it. Not sure how practical or usefull it would have been, though. Most of our firefights were fairly...
I think most of us old Guntruckers would prefer a replica of an real truck. However it can very hard to get info on some of the trucks. These trucks changed constantly while in service so pictures from say 1969 might be different from 1970.I say build what you want whether replica or tribute...
Yeah Driver, already got my room reserved and vacation time scheduled. My old Platoon Leader, Al Greene, is also planning to be there. I think I've mentioned before that he was CC the day of the Minny's heli. crash. Waiting for August. Just another idea, but how about at the Gathering, guys put...
Driver, in your pix of Otto, the bumper clearly shows 64th. I always remembered it being 64th but have seen some posts on some other sites that said 359th. Do you know if it was ever anywhere but 64th?
As Papabear said, the two cannot be compared. It seems the MVPA is more of a carshow event while the Gathering is a reunion. My first Gathering had no trucks at all, just a bunch of good folks that had no idea who I was but greeted me as a brother, the same as we would anyone with an interest in...
