    Mep-005a

I doubt there are any significant quality differences between various years. The whole idea of specifications is to avoid variance between units. As mentioned above the engine is identical and has been in service a billion years in various configurations.

    Jerry cans

Yes, water cans are different from fuel cans, but easttnemc's comment was that they were selling fuel cans as water cans to bypass regs with regard to fuel cans.

MEP generator sizing for starting 10hp elec motors

FWIW, I understand that the 004 has a good 'surge' rating. I can't remember what it is (and since I'm in the hospital, can't get at my manuals) but it probably will work if one is careful about starting one at a time.

    Generators w/ Slave

I'm sure my MEP-004 would have few problems starting a truck. I don't know if a 002/003 would be as good (IIRC, they have smaller batteries...) I do know when I start big trucks, I leave the jumper/slave cable on for about 10 to 20 minutes before trying to start and things work much better (this...

    rewiring MEP004 for single phase

Just a quick note on 004s used for homes. I have an all electric home in NH, with electric heat, cooking, cloths dryer, etc., and I rarely get up to full load on the generator. Were I to do this 'again' I'd absolutely look at a 003!

    rewiring MEP004 for single phase

Bimota, I don't think you can balance it without a lot of work. You'd have to add secondary loads to the unused phases (since high leg delta uses one phase for the 120/240.) I think above in this thread I explained that the power companies do this by running multiple high leg delta feeds from a...

Paralleling two or more MEP 002A or 003A

Just to add, I know another MEP-003 user who parallels them. He only does it if he has to, but he can do it. Once paralleled they stay in sync until either the connection is broken or you have some mechanical failure.

Another Mosler GSA file cabinet question

Ah, yes, I remember now. But IIRC, mine didn't have the screws (bet they'd been removed and never replaced.) If you have the original lock I have information on how to change the combination somewhere. It is not difficult, but requires extreme care to avoid the possibility of accidentally...

Another Mosler GSA file cabinet question

I *think* there are catches on the sides. They do come out, I believe as I'm sure I pulled mine out several times. Look carefully, I think they can be seen easily (since I, the village idiot, had no issues removing mine.) (Sorry I can't look on mine but it is in a closet that is so tight I...

How do you do an initial setup of an MEP-003A

No way (says the guy who knows for a fact he can fit into the ASK for a MEP-004 to rebuild the engine in place because he did it...)

    MEP004A frequency adjustment question

The reostat works with the precise models which have an electronic speed control (which governs frequency) for the engine. The utility models use a mechanical speed control which is adequate but not as stable as the electronic version. OP: adjust your frequency with the throttle knob to the...

    MEP-005A high voltage problem.

Definitely 'tweak' the Hz gauge transducer's pots. Mark the current position well, then run them from zero to full a few times, and reset them to the points you marked. The connect the meter to the transducer, and the input to the transducer to any 120 volt outlet in your shop. If it doesn't...

    MEP-005A high voltage problem.

Temperature? WTF! It's about 3 below right now, and expected to be about -20 tonight. I had to work outdoors much of the morning--my fingers are just warming up now after about eight hours indoors. Do keep everyone updated!

The $10,000 question: is it working OK now?

MEP-004 water pump kit NSN 2930-00-678-3818 - Napa or other civi equivalent?

that ebay pump does not look like the MEP-004 pump to me.

MEP-004 water pump kit NSN 2930-00-678-3818 - Napa or other civi equivalent?

Hercano (that's probably misspelled) Propulsion (Jerry Brio again probably not spelled right) is the source. Search this forum and you'll find references to him posted by me a year or two ago. Jerry (and his wife Linda) is the guy to go to for engine parts. If Jerry can't help you I may have a...

    MEP 002A/003A Auto Start Kit

Either it was a one time thing, and sold, or the search is bad--doesn't bring up anything MEP related.

New member - Need generator advice

Yes, but there were differences in how the injection pump was mounted on the early D198 engines and the later MEP-004 ones. But basically the same engine. This generator appears to be two generations before the MEP-004, based on some experience I have with the one that was used after yours, and...

MEP-004 Injector pump and no power to fuel pumps

That's basically true, but at least with the 004 and 005 (and I suspect the 006) if you turn on battle switch, and the off-run-start switch to run, the fuel pumps will run as the battle switch bypasses the low oil pressure cutoff. This is the accepted method to prime the fuel filters when...
