    Another successful recovery

Well, my wish list just had a starter added to it. Seems this one is stone dead. Tried jumping it a couple of different ways, get power to the solenoid and not even a whimper or a groan from it.

M1009 from Wyoming to Colorado with a bit of a detour.

I would recommend throwing in the towel and taking it to a shop and let them remove it. If you've removed the broken extractors, then they'll probably not bitch too much. LOL It'd be certainly worth the lack of headache to just pay someone else. As an alternative, I think I still have the...

    Sabatoge or Stupidity

Yea, the two disposed parts 1009s I bought a few years back had punch holes in the bottom of the power steering pumps, the transmission pans, and the fuel tanks. All had either rags shoved in the holes, or the little plastic screw caps. Make sure you check all of those thoroughly before you get...

LMC Truck Head light circuit mod

A relay is only really voltage sensitive on the coil (activation) side. The load side is just a pair of contacts that closes the circuit like a switch. So long as you're not crazy with it, it'll be fine. The standard Bosch relays (the black cube ones) will handle 24V on the load side with no...

    Another successful recovery

Well, brought home my third 1009 this morning. Smooth recovery from Ft Carson, in and out in less than a half hour. This one is ultimately destined to be handed over to a friend, but I'm going to get it straightened out first. Need a few pieces and parts, if anyone has a 1009 in or near...

Extraction and Shipping Help: Herlong, CA or Reno, NV

My timing changed and I'll be out that way in two weeks to pick my truck up. If you get stuck, I'll be driving back from Reno the exact week after you, driving out the 25th and should be back in Co Springs on the 28th. Drop me a line privately if you need anything.

    CUCV suburban?, or converted. PICS

The only turbo in that bodystyle Suburban was a Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 tranny... LOL I'd love to see more pics and info on it though. Joe

Extraction and Shipping Help: Herlong, CA or Reno, NV

I'm heading out there in late March/early April (Depending on weather) to pick up my 1031 from Reno. If you can wait that long, I'll be happy to work something out to haul it to CO on the return trip. Hit me up if you're interested. Joe

Seat Cover Doesn't Fit Worth a Darn

Check this video out of how to put one of those cheap covers on in a pretty decent way. I don't like them personally, but Jeff's method seems to be pretty good if it's what you've got. Check out part 1 and 2 from the series if you want to see the whole thing from the start. I never thought...

Correct markings for an USAF M1009 ?

EAFB would be the base initials, and then the MAJCOM would be SAC, or ACC, or MAC, whichever Edwards was. Unit markings would be something like 21SPS for the 21st Security Police Squadron or whatever Wing number was on Edwards at the time. Could also have been a CES vehicle for Civil Engineering...

1986 CUCV M1008: wiring of GPR109 glow plug relay as replacement of original GPR

For a quick explanation, the S and I markings are for a starter solenoid. The S is the 12V signal and the I is the ignition resistor bypass, which feeds 12V directly to the coil to get a hotter spark for starting. This means the relay's coil is grounded to the body through the mount. A glow plug...

M1031: needs pics of governor actuator linkage

I'd be interested in one of these as well if anyone knows where to get one, or who can make one.

    Trouble Diagnoising Glow Plug Controller

The second thump should be the relay opening back up. When it closes, you should have ~14 on both sides of the relay If you have one of those remote starter triggers (the kind that clips to the starter solenoid to crank under the hood) you can jump the relay to test it without the controller...

    Trouble Diagnoising Glow Plug Controller

Ok, top and bottom are relative to how you have your GPR installed. So we'll just go with the, 'from the resistor bank', and 'to the glow plugs' designation. Should be easy for you to track down. There should always be 24V going to the post on the relay from the resistor bank if the batteries...

    M1009 Help

To clarify, I'm not saying for him not be enthusiastic about it, I'm saying to keep it under control so he can finish the marathon, rather than throwing his efforts into a thousand directions. I think he got what I was saying, but some others might think I'm being a wet blanket, which isn't my...

    M1009 Help

Just checked out this thread and I figured I'd add to the encouragement pile. I learned to work on cars early on as well, and am always glad to see someone so young have an interest in a mechanical trade. Building your first vehicle will not only be a great learning experience from a mechanical...

    My 1984 Chevrolet Suburban K20 4x4 3/4 ton CUCV clone #2 - AKA: M1007 or M1029

How do you recommend sealing up the holes in the roof after bolting the mounts down?

    My 1984 Chevrolet Suburban K20 4x4 3/4 ton CUCV clone #2 - AKA: M1007 or M1029

Hey K9, how are you mounting the roofrack? I have a safari rack for my Sub, but it bolts to the roof, and I'm not sure how best to secure and seal it. Any suggestions? Nice looking rig, I hope mine looks half as good when I'm done.
