Pics from the 4th of July parade in Sierra Madre yesterday:D.
Truck performed flawlessly.
And for those FMTV owners out there;), I used a stick to check the fuel level in the tank and adding 2 jerry cans of fuel (4 1/2 gal in each) , measured 1 3/4" rise for each can. This equals approx .64...
I'm getting ready for the Sierra Madre 4th of July parade, and making some refinements to the FDT's kit and utilizing more of the gear I had. Even without the weapons, it made a striking image.
with the weapons, I think it'll make the first showing look sick.
I bought the netting from another SS member, along with other miscellenous things, none of what has been previously shown with the truck. The windshield's camo is made from the netting's repair kit.... I think it has a wardrobe to match Madonna's.... so much so that some is be reassigned to...
Without fan fair, a milestone has come and passed. The Fly Dump Truck has physically been in my possession 1 year on the June 24th On that day, I doubt that there wasn’t one person at the museum that wouldn’t have stood before a judge and testified that I should be committed ! (and me among...
Sacrilege ! mentioning the "O" word in front of a SS... no wonder Derrick has had so many problems!:-P
Since my truck was at another location during my rebuild, I planned my days in advance and had troubleshooted the next project well before I got to the truck and had a good idea of every...
The thermo switch can be a killer... as I said it is "suppose" to reset when cool... think of it as an automatic circuit breaker just before ground.;)
It's a protection to keep a driver from cranking until the batteries drain, or the starter burns up.
The military has to replace the starter when...
Attached is a pic of the aux/remote relay. As SC and I mentioned.
Before anything else, try a pigtail from the - side of the relay to chassis ground. This will bypass the thermo switch inside the starter. The thermo switch only opens the ground side with excessive cranking of the engine...
The ground lead goes inside the starter to the thermo switch in the back plate. We used a test light to find the ground side of the trigger wires. On mine, only one wire on each side .... the small wires
Wow man, stay away from the FDT... you bad juju!
The starting may be a bad thermo switch in the starter, To bypass, just add a new ground wire to the aux starting relay... make sure its on the ground side.
Well, as women fashion designers put it; accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!... It’ll make any ugly duckling into the belle of the Prom:mrgreen:
Just wait until you see the tiara I have in mind for the old girl.
And I’m am sure she would never settle for a driveway… she has gotten the...

There may not be anything wrong. FMTVs are a full time 4x4 and 6x6s. The tranfercase acts as a open diff in normal mode and locks in off road mode. When you disconnected the front driveshaft you basically sent all the power to the front. The operation you saw after selecting off road...
AFAIK, one wheel on each axle will spin... I also noticed the left tire on the middle axle didn't spin while it was in the air for a brief moment, couldn't tell about the right.
You might want to jack up all 3 axles on one side and cage the brakes on that side ( The 2 downside axles still...
Received an old Stewart Stevenson trades show packet today.:-D
Among the lit was a couple of CDs.
Also data sheets on all the standard cabs. Since most the info is the same for the LVADs, I thought I'd post the sheet for the M1090.
Just to add. This is it with "street" dress... for those pesty LEOs that like windshields, mirrors and shoulder belts, and don't like things hanging from it
"AO" is reference to the folding cab on on the FMTVs. Namely the M1081, M1093 and M1094. The engine in mine is the CAT 3116, common during the '90's on GM Top Kicks and Kodiaks.
BAE told me it had the A1 upgrades, as there is a year difference between the manufactured date and the delivery date...
Derrick,
I don't know what happened with Winslow place since his death, but he did have various 1081s. The last 2 were in limbo...one could have supplied a majority of the parts you need
And unbelievably, the truck didn't have its full kit with it, or all of it displayed that was.
It was the truck's first showing and was't to that point until 7PM the night before.
For those that have plenty of time on their hand, or care, this is the looong thread of it's acquistion, the...
