I have a combination auxilary tank and tool box that is going in my 1028, but of course I don't want shiny aluminum in the back.
What the best best way to prep and prime it to ensure the paint sticks?
All in all, not bad. But I did learn that the tractor supply hardener and Majic brand flat tan paint are not compatable- I waited the 30 minutes before painting it suggested and was getting large platters as it was already setting. I drove on anyway, and the paint is rough and very orange...
It is a CUE57-6DY-TM, looks like it was a pretty limited production run for the militery, but it is all off the shelf commercial stuff painted green. The military says 15cfm at 175psi, but the compressor itself in civilian service is rated at 18cfm.
The battery is deader than a doornail, but...
Picked up a yet another M-416 trailer today. Seems like feast or famine with these, lately I find a lot.
This one is a 1967 USMC version, and it has a neat cover/cap made from heavy galvanized steel. The steel has a stamp that looks like it was made in 75, so I am betting that it was made...
I just picked up a nice military trailer mounted, diesel powered compressor. Specs say 15cfm at 175psi, but the same comepressor in civilian service is often sold as a 20cfm, so it may do better than 15.
Of course that means I need a sandblaster!
What do you guys like? I need to keep it $600...
In light of recent events, I think a serious discussion about safety and slow moving vehicles is in order.
Idiots on the road are getting faster and faster, while our OD iron isn't. And while we are perfectly legal to run it, and people should be watching out, the more we can do to be seen...
When- Friday, 11 November 2011. Line up about 0900, memorial service starts at 11:00.
Where- Clyde NC, zip 28721. 20 miles west of Asheville, right off of I-40. Right on the town square next to the WWII 3"50 Naval Gun mounted on the square.
What- Bring your vehicle for display for the...
I have a potential customer who wants one of my M101A2's, but he wants it to ride lower.
Off road ability is not an issue. He has developed a new filter system for WVO and WMO and wants to use this trailer to haul his display model around. The plan is to build an enclosure about 7-8 feet high...
I was talking to a buddy of mine today about putting my welder on a trailer. Ideally I want a pioneer trailer for it, but I haven't had any luck finding one lately.
He came up with the idea of flipping a second M101 trailer body over and putting it on the top of the first one, like a camper...
My 94 Chevy 1500 with the 6.5 lost the transmission, and at 280,000 I don't really want to dump much more money into it.
I have a CJ7 that can be my daily driver, and am seriously thinking of taking on building an M1028 as a project for when I need a truck. I have a chance to buy a runner for...
Wed I am headed to Redstone to get two trailers I bought- I will have an empty trailer heading down, and if anyone has something small they need hauled back I can do that too.
I recently aquired a few stencil cutting machines, and am looking for pictures of some of the "non-standard" stencils found in vehicles. I know how the bumper numbers, tire pressure, and the other "normal" stencils are done.
I am looking for pictures of the hood markings inside, no smoking...
I have an M416B1 and I know it is the uncommon varient- trying to decide if I just want to keep it and use it or if it is worth selling. It has the lifting rings, jeery can mounts (one is not bolted on but I have it) and the 422 wheels with the right hubs.
Free trailer if you move one for me AL to NC
I just won two M101's and am debating if I should take a day off from the shop to go get them or have someone move them for me. They are at Redstone, and would be coming to Clyde NC 28721- about 285 miles.
Both look to have great tires, and they...
