yup I agree. that's why I asked. I like to do things right the first time and to save time by having everything ready before taking on the task.
Are you suggesting that I should replace the bolts with new ones? I plan on using red loctite
I'm waiting for new ball joints. In the mean time I'm looking for the best tool for the job.
in consideration is a ball joint separator from HF -vs- a pitman/pickle fork.
can anyone tell me from their experience which of these is a better option for these ball joints?
And importantly, What...
those all seem nice and tight. I've pried on most connections in the past, and the alignment shop also supposedly checked "everything"... but I guess not the lower rear left ball joint. Should I ask them to recheck alignment after I install the new ball joint? I'm thinking they couldn't of...
Haha! yeah that would be depressing.
I grabbed another stand and put it under the lower arm, then lowered the jack so the truck rests on both stands. with enough pressure on the one under the arm so that the spring begins to compress.
then with the 2x4 under the hub I pushed up. with my hand...
driving a few days ago I had a motorcyclist pull up along side me and tell me that my rear wheel looks like it might have some loose lugs because he saw irregular spin from behind.
I pulled over and checked. lugs were tight.
When I got back to the garage and grabbed the rear left corner of the...
any other ideas on raising ride height about 1/2" - 1" ?
I was originally thinking about adding a 1/2" spacer at top of spring, but the smallest spacer I could make would have to be 1" in order to have enough lip to weld a collar on the inside of the spacer to hold the spring in place.
with a...
So it's not just that the front springs are more tired from carrying the engine? Front and rear are different springs?
or are the rears just more stretched out before installed?
Thanks for the link!
According to that document, as long as the height from the shop floor to the bottom of the cross member bracket is more than 16" then it is acceptable.
My front measured 17-3/4" and the rear measured 20-3/4"
However, my front tires only have about 10% tread remaining and...
My truck(1993) rides very high in the rear and a bit low in the front.
are the stock rear springs the same as stock front?
any issues with swapping them(front-rear, rear-front)?
Would toe alignment be significantly changed with the change in ride height?
finally decided to remove some of the slop out of the belts since I could occasionally(mostly when glow plugs were cycling) hear them slapping against each other.
So, today I added some tension using the alternator adjustment bracket.
still a little slop.
BUT,
upon starting the truck I heard an...
I'm dealing with something similar.
As I understand it, it's possible for some functions of the TDM to work and others not.
I'm going to order a new TDM as soon as I have some cash to spare.
Do you mean that if the thermostat doesn't open, the fan will turn on at a lower temp than it normally would? Or that it will happen sooner because the temp will rise faster?
I'm thinking that the new thermostatic switch I installed has a lower temp setting so it turns the fan on at 200 instead...
not that it turns on at all, but as i mentioned earlier it turns on at 200 degrees.
i know that the fan will just stay on from certain failures by design.
i’d bore myself and anyone following the whole thread if i was repeating the whole thread in each reply.
im thinking that my TDM has a...
Well it definitely opens because the fan turns on. but it stays on until the truck has cooled to way below 160. if I restart the truck at 160, the fan will still be on.
when the truck is cold, I can turn the fan on by disconnecting the TDM.
Is there a part number that supersedes the original...
