How long are people spending on Crewcabs?

Hi Folks, I'm strongly thinking about building a crew cab later in the year... What's the total time commitment to building one? Has there been a good writeup of a crew-cab "recipe" yet, or any establishment of best practices to build one? I understand the need to stretch the hardtop...

Quick ujoint question for 800 and 900 series

Hi Folks, What universal joint series do 800 and 900 series trucks use? I'm trying to gather parts for my next build. Thanks Bob

Will an 8.3 cummins create too much torque for the M35 driveline?

Title says it all. The 3208T deuce has been fun but I'm looking to build a truck with more power. The hills in Colorado are sizeable enough to make 500-600 ft lbs in this truck seem like a mouse motor. My truck would be a screaming flatland truck but unfortunately I've learned (the hard way)...

Quick steering measurement requested from a stock deuce

Hi Gang, I am in need of a quick measurement from a stock deuce (at least, one with stock steering): - From the center of the sector shaft (where the pitman bolts onto the steering box): - To the center of the spring eye, as found on the front of the driver's side. Hey, if you already...

Reminder.... check your battery water periodically!

I just about beat myself up trying to figure out why I couldn't start the truck today, after being on the battery charger for the past few days. Checked the battery water, and yep, down to the top of the plates on the aft battery. :? Off to get some distilled water.

Was: Question about draglink? Now: Steering is finally done.

The title says it all. I made a custom draglink last week, and when I installed it last night, the aft edge of the balljoint it brushes up against the shock. GRRR!!!!! How close is this on a stock deuce? I'm wondering if I can "shim" the hemispheres in the joint to space the steering ball...

Pictures of the new steering box project

This is becoming quite the art project. I'm still not 100% done yet, but this is where I currently stand. BTW, the pitman was welded with .035 wire at 22-23 volts with C02 shielding - this is not my first time modifying forged parts like this - I'm not worried...

    Stock draglink travel in inches?

The title says it all.... what is the throw of the stock draglink, with stock steering stops? I am about to fabricate a new pitman arm and I'd like to know how much travel the steering really needs.. Yes, I could jack up the axle and swivel it (and still might) but it would be great to have a...

Quick question! Inside knuckles - snot/grease-packed or dry?

I'm deep into a kingpin rebuild and boot pack on my front axle, and when I removed the old boot, the inside is literally GUSHING gorilla snot and grease (almost looks like cosmoline). Is this normal? I haven't really been inside a deuce axle WHILE it was on a deuce, so I'm trying to determine...

Crosspost: Added 12v LED turn lights in series to the deuce

The subject line pretty much says it all: http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=119413 This is my primary forum, and I can easily upload pics on that site. Anyway, these look pretty smart - I have the side markers on the lower rail of the bed, mounted with some coated body screws...

Pardon the crosspost, but thought you'd be interested. http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=120270

Flipping around front axle shims - how to raise vehicle????

Hi Gang, I am encountering an issue - with all of my jacks, and all of my tools, I am having issues lifting and supporting the weight of the vehicle, enough to permit swapping these shims. I have a 48" high lift (I know, dangerous when misused), some LARGE jackstands, and the typical 3 ton...

Best extremely-high vis LED turn lamp for front fender?

The title says it all. My stock low-profile lamp is corroded beyond use, and I'd like to transition to something with much higher visibility (preferably, a tower with excellent front-side-back visibility). Thanks Bob

Thoughts on overdrive.... has the tcase been looked at?

So I'm sitting here, watching the BoSox get closer to sweeping the Rocks, and I'm searching on tcases because it's been too long since I've been in the garage. Check out the specs on the 1702 tcase by fabco: http://fabcoautomotive.com/products/fs_twospeed.htm...

Has anyone singled out a deuce with 5 ton axles?....

I don't know what made me think of this, but I had a thought about maybe swapping out to singles and 5 ton axles... oh yeah, I realized when it was - I was talking to a friend about an M105 trailer he wanted to sell, I got to thinking about the bed, and how it would look on my truck with...

    Rear trackbar thoughts

Hi Folks, I continue to battle steering uncertainty at speed. After much thought and under-carriage staring, I am thinking that the ability of the rear suspension to "Swerve" on its on is a major contributor. I've already shimmed the "windows" or "pockets" that the rear leafs ride in, and...

Very OT: Video featuring my deuce

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-ePa-76lFIg I was just at a bar, and someone told me about the existance of this video. I was asked last year to help my friend's team make an entrance. Warning - drunken tricycle race video.

Toe-in with singles and radials - thoughts?

Lately, I've been trying to track down the cause of a weaving on highways with semi ruts, which manifests itself as a dead spot in the wheel and a slow, well, weave from the rear tandems. This task is is tough because I've changed just so much on this truck. I'm singled with dually wheels in...

Might be looking to start over- built 3208T-deuce thoughts

Pretext: I have this deuce I've dropped a 3208 and a Spicer 6855 (.695OD ) tranny into. I'm overall very happy with the power it offers, but I'm wondering if something in the 300 or so HP range wouldn't be better for the hills around here (such as Vail Pass, one of the highest in the Interstate...

    Ordered the 9 speed today....

Well, I did it - I found an overdrive 9 speed airshift, rebuilt, for a decent price, so I pulled the trigger on it. This will go behind the 3208T, replacing the 5 speed spicer I have in there now. I'm pretty fired up about it. I should have it in sometime in May or June... I want to split the...
