I remember when the Fluke 87 came out. I preferred my True RMS beckman over it because I didn't like the delay of the auto-ranging feature. I'm kind of like GuyFang, I want to see instantaneous changes. My Beckman isn't quite as fast as old analog meters, but it's close. I've had that darn...
I lived through the migration to black box while working in the medical X-Ray diagnostic field. The private companies thought it was a good idea to drive it to a black box method of maintenance because they intended to dumb down the job to the point any delivery guy with no training or...
I did make it to Erlangen for a training course at Siemens AG in 1994. We visited a few cities such as Kronach and Forcheim. I was just starting to enjoy it when it was time to come home.
I know this is a dumb question but are you sure your test meter is reading right? I've had some goofy meters in the past that didn't read as they should, no voltage reading when there was voltage. Once I realized that I had a whacky meter, I'd usually throw it in the garbage. Those kind of...
Good Catch ! It shouldn't matter if the charger grounding isn't connected to the generator ground. Each charger will only see the 12 volt load between the positive and negative battery charger gator clips. There is a possibility the charger manufacturer could have tied the negative cable to...
I work on my deuce and M1028 Chevy and my assorted generators. I also putt around the house and yard (4 acres) . I also love to read and collect books. I have quite an collection now. At last count I had over 10,000 books. That was a few years ago and the collection is bigger now. I have one of...
I think Guyfang hit the nail on the head with this one. I believe you'll need to heat the shaft and/or coupler till it's just hot enough to smoke. I think if I were you, I'd heat the coupler. I'd also use a cutting torch to get it up to temp quick so not too much heat is transferred to the...
I totally agree with you on this one. That's why I got out of medical xray. You can't really test or fix anything on the new stuff. You just throw parts at it and those parts are very expensive. Even if you do put the part in a known good machine for test, sometimes the issues are...
I would say the only time a 24 volt charger is truly required is when you have 24 volt batteries. If you're using two 12 volt batteries, you can run two chargers, one on each battery.
I just replaced a flaky ACVR on a 016. Sometimes the voltage would be low, then it might jump up higher. I replace the ACVR and it was rock solid and normal.
It will also make it smoke like a coal burning steam engine. I recently had an engine that had some water in the crank case. It ran good and had good power but smoked so bad it would fill the neighborhood with white smoke in a few minutes. This was caused by one small rust pit in the...
I like how you think. We are very much alike. I was going to take it as far as to the generator windings. If the windings were toast, I'd sell it for the engine. If it can be 100%, I'm going to make it run and run right! I see now why the yanmar conversions are so popular. It's a much...
Guyfang, you have a good point there. the old analog meters were as quick to respond as you could get. I have a very old Beckman meter I love. It's pretty much as fast as an analog meter, but no frequency counter function. When they went to the auto ranging stuff, I threw my hands up for...
