I'd like to put my new speakers in the stock location under the dash, but I can't see how to get the dash pad off. It's still in good shape (amazingly!) and I don't want to mess it up. Anyone know how to pull it off?
I'm looking at ways to provide a little protection from small-arms fire for my M1009...I doubt the glass can ever be upgraded so perhaps this is a waste of time, but something (1/8" plate? kevlar mat?) inside the doors would be a start. Any ideas?
Also, some run-flat tires would be handy, just...
My bet is the problem is in the Vacuum Regulating Valve (VRV) on the pass. side of the IP. Mine got stuck internally and the truck would wind out to redline before every shift. The VRV can be removed, disassembled, cleaned and relubed with spray. Beats paying $125 for a new one from the GM dealer.
Hey Tripp, do you recall what special tools you had to buy (sizeof S-wrench & deep sockets)? I'd rather have them in my toolbox before I start taking apart my only ride!
Yeah, sorry Hardcorps, I snagged the Hummer IP off ebay as soon as I saw Westech's post. At the time they had several of them, though. Thanx Westech, you IS the Man!
When I got my M1009 the flexible part of the cooler lines was leaking, and the aluminum part was worn almost thru where it passes behind the radiator shroud (unbolt the shroud at the top and check the aluminum lines on both sides). NAPA couldn't get replacements; I toyed with the idea of making...
Getting rid of the backseat from my 86 M1009. It's in good shape, no rips. Anyone who wants to come pick it up in Spencer NY 14883 or pay shipping on it can have it for free. It weighs about fifty pounds, could send by UPS when folded up. PM me if interested.
Gaskets for the top can also be had at JC Whitney, cab one is around $50, side rails are extra. I was going to use camper-gasket tape for the sides since its cheap. I plugged the large holes drilled in my top with fender washers threaded onto toggle bolts.
After looking at the pictures posted by 3Dubs, I'm planning on installing a DSG stud girdle in my 86 M1009, and changing the motor mounts and rear main seal at the same time. Since I have to remove the oil pump anyway, I was thinking of upgrading to one of these:
6-5liter.com - Replacement 6.5...
If it is the sending unit, don't bother dropping the tank and skidplate and all that rusty hardware. Just drill a hole in the bed, then cut out a 6" dia. hole with an air nibbler (no sparks) so you can pull out the sending unit. After you've replaced it you can make a square plate and screw it...
I've read alot about CUCV vacuum-related shifting problems in this forum, so here's a free fix that worked for me:
First, I unplugged the hose at the vac. regulator valve (on the side of the IP) and held my finger over it with the engine running to verify the pump was working. It was, so then I...
Hey 3Dubs, where didja get that main stud girdle? Was it expensive? Do you think it could be installed with the engine still in the truck, just drop the pan?
Just doing some research on what it means for an injection pump to have the spec "1.2 cSt." Apparently "cSt" refers to the viscosity of the fuel, with higher numbers being more viscous. These pumps are listed on several reman sites as "arctic", and its an expensive option: about $300 bucks more...
You can add a 1/8"NPT branch-T at the location of the idiot-light sending unit (driver's rear of engine block), then screw both senders into the T. Be sure to get an electrical (not mechanical) gauge, since I've had the tube break on a mech. one and sprayed oil all inside the dash! JC Whitney...
If the fuel pressure switch isnt found in the civvy trucks at all, why not just bypass it and save the $10? Which is what you'd have to do when upgrading to a spin-on anyway. Would you connect the two wires to bypass it, or separate them?
Poking around under the dash on my 86 M1009 (installing the Doghead starter relay conversion -- thanks Doghead!), I've found two circuit boards in plastic boxes: a small one near the starter relay, which I think is the glowplug controller, and a larger one, a little bigger than a deck of cards...
