So far every piece of rubber I've looked at on my 86 M1009 has been toast. So no big surprise when I found that the (4) rubber bushings that support the radiator were falling apart. The surprise came later when the NAPA guy just laughed at me and the Chevy dealer said they were no longer...
From researching previous posts, it looks like the mil-spec IP's have hardened internal parts not found in the civvy units...is this correct? I have a civvy IP core, but if this info is correct the civvy unit cannot be rebuilt to mil-spec for use with sub-standard fuels (which is what I usually...
So I'm installing a flat plate style engine oil cooler on my 86 M1009, to bypass the leaky aluminum original lines and take some load off the cooling system. But now I'm wondering: is this something that should be run in series, like a transmission cooler? Also, I have an oil cooler thermostat...
This is the ENGINE oil cooler I'm talking about (although I'll be installing a series-mounted tranny cooler at the same time). Does the engine oil cooler need to be series mounted as well? Hope not, since the whole reason for this project was to bypass the leaky aluminum oil cooler lines, and I...
Haven't done an actual price comparison, but I'm guessing brass fittings that size (1/2 or 3/4") will be way more expensive than iron, and also less durable. Is there a reason not to use iron?
After changing the leaky engine oil cooler lines on my '86 M1009, I've decided to redo the rest of the system with a flate-plate oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Hoping this will be more efficient than cooling the oil inside the 200deg radiator, and also take some of the load off...
I used a brass 1/4" NPT T-fitting, with tubing adapters on both sides, where the hot (upper) trans cooler line goes into the radiator. My temp sender is 1/8" NPT, so a bushing allows it to fit into the top of the T-fitting.
put on the red light
Followed the link to the company selling the red bulbs, but don't see any prices, shopping cart link, or even a phone number. How do you order these?
I'm looking for a place to install a thermocouple for a temp gauge (murphy switch) in my '85 M1009. Both the ports on the cylinder heads seem to be occupied. Is there any other place to get into the coolant, other than T-ing into a heater hose with a pipe fitting?
I'm now midway thru the job -- I've removed the old balancer. NAPA gets $90 for one, and I decided to replace the crank front seal at the same time, for another $10. It's taking three days to get one, so I'll post a follow-up on the installation.
You can definitely do it in your driveway (that's...
So I've owned my M1009 for a couple months now, and just noticed that the crank pulley has a definite wobble in it. The engine runs great, with no vibration,
so I'm guessing this has to be just a bent pulley (right?!?) but it's wearing out the belts. Anyone got a crank pulley they'd like to...
correct CDR valve numbers???
I'm looking for a CDR valve for my '86 M1009...looks like I just missed the big sale (naturally). I followed the link to Rock Auto, but they claim "no parts found" for Delco CV870 and CV871. Anyone have a revised part number or parts source?
