I just bought a set today. Don't need much for Florida. Only a six month trade out but you will know by then. They are about 1/2 in fatter then the 51R. Should fit nicely in the 803. But for $60 each better than $125 car batteries.
My other set has sli51r in them but only 400 CCA and they...
A shop gantry rated at 2000lb and an electric cable lift rated at 750kg (1650lbs) and a 1 ton trolley. Works wonders up and down. Not so much front to back but it is moveable.....low and slow.
Got the pistons installed with no issues except the rings. I noticed that if you are not very careful when using the ring compressor that you can spin the ring out of position. Have to be very careful about that or else you can wind up with on ring split sitting right on top of another one...
I always use an assembly lube on my rebuilds. I can not tell you how many engines that I have heard about being destroyed by a dry start up. Yep, that metal to metal with no lube is just screeching to be released.
Worked like a charm. Got the oven to 460 and let the gear sit in the oven for about 30 minutes to heat up. Put it on the crankshaft and it slid a bit into place and I used a large socket (for the Motor Home) and tapped it into place. Just a tiny tap here and there.
And BTW, is the heat the pinion gear to 460deg F really the way to install it on the crank shaft? Will it just slide on or do you have to use a gear installer as well? How much time do I have to "play" with the installation?

Yeah, but this is a Mar 2009 set. SO no data plate. I think way too early for a reset.
I am not opposed to the use of RTV cement when warranted. Even this rebuild requires some for around the flywheel end main bearing housing spacer. What I am opposed to is the use of RTV cement as an...
Don't know. I have never tried to sell one here or anywhere else. But I figure after the last hurricane and increasing weather changes - for whatever reason - will keep the loss of power in peoples minds and nobody likes to live in 95+ temp with 80% humidity for any length of time.
I saw one...
Forty to fifty......so your the one jacking up the prices...... :)
And here I thought that I had found another hobby.....repurposing these. Be happy to do just a half dozen or so......
None of them are mine. A lot of money for gensets that used to be hundreds of dollars being more common from what I was told. Even from last year the operational ones are selling for $7500 plus these days up from around $5500
Center bearings. Some serious scarring on the edges for 15 hour bearings....
Generator after clean up, ready to go back together.
And that is it for today picture wise and as always, comments are welcome about what you see. Opinions are welcome as well.
More peeks into the block.
Center bearing mounts. Do not know what that crud is on them but it is on both sides at the same location.
Center bearings.
Thrust bearings.
One more to follow.....
Rear main bearing and end cap.
More RTV cement.....

The Final Teardown
Well I got back into it today. The gantry came in with the 1 ton trolley and the 350/700KG cable lift. I know why people choose chain lifts....the cable can be a hassle when it does not want to wind correctly. Anyways, got the second genset off the truck and off to the...
