Hi McGuyver, I looked and there won’t be about room over the axle for the tire. The M166A3 axle has a higher center for maximum ground clearance, which eliminates that space.
I have a M116A3 that is running civilian pickup truck wheels (16 inch steel rims with 31’s). I am interested in fabricating an under-trailer spare tire carrier using a pickup truck spare tire winch.
Has anyone with an M101 or M116 done this before, and if so, would you be willing to share some...
Thank you. The center part definitely had the military green, but I think it got sprayed when someone painted a wheel while it was on the trailer. It's sort of hard to tell on the rest of it.
Working on fixing this on my M116A3:
Yes, the hub is cracked!
The parts have all arrived now.
Some photos of the new hardware.
Quick question: Should I paint that new hub because it will rust if I don’t?
Got new tires for my M116A3 yesterday.
BFG KO2 245/75R16 (31’s)
I found this however, when changing the tires.
Question: When I find a new hub body, will I be able to transplant my almost brand new Timken wheel bearings over to it, or will I have to buy new bearings? Never had this...
Nice trailer! I like the expanding roof concept a lot. How does it do going down the road in the rain, with the adjustable roof-body seams? Does it stay dry inside?
Is this the landing leg you need?
I replaced mine with a version that has a jack and a crank, so the old one you see in this pic is just sitting around collecting dust in my basement.
I’m in PA and I see you’re in MN, so shipping the heavy steel part might be tricky. But I’d be happy to...
Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. It sounds like the degradation of the rubber in the sun is par for the course for this equipment. On another forum I also got advice to wrap it in electrical tape it use heat shrink tubing around it. Has anyone tried either of those options?
The 12-pin electrical connector cable on my M116A3 has seen better days. Although electrically it works fine, the rubber is so degraded that it leaves my hands covered in black residue when I plug or unplug it from my vehicle, and the rubber has cracked to the point that it is almost...
Nice camper! I use a short step ladder that I can fold up and store under the bed. You can just see it in this pic:
Here is the model of ladder I have:

LOL, there’s a military trailer in there somewhere!
Here is the build thread if you want to see how it came together:

Today I got organized and brought over the tools and materials to finish building my trailer’s interior. Here’s a shot of the outside and the inside through the rear door. It needs cedar paneling on the walls and a birch plywood ceiling. I’m about 2-1/2 years into the build but haven’t had much...
I recently replaced the master cylinder and rehabbed the surge brakes on my M116A3 using parts from Croft Trailer Supply. Everything was a direct swap.
The trailer rides amazingly well with rebuilt brakes and new bearings.
New master cylinder and other brake parts installed.
The master...
