10 step program
step by step, you'll be out within 2 hours or less:
1-level up the ground in front of the front bumper.
2-obtain two high lift jacks designed for lifted 4x4 trucks. Four jacks would be even better if you have buddies with them. (bring some bottle jacks &/or floor jacks with...
Plywood & a couple of hi-lifts would have that out after you level up the ground a bit for the plywood.
Bring some old carpet too to give the rear wheels some bite.
I wouldn't say $1000 per differential is "too good to be true." And even if it were, how is that the consumer's fault to want the best price he can find? Isn't that the whole point of capitalism?
Whether it's Chinese or American fraud, it's still fraud. It should be investigated & stopped...
No, you have missed the point.
It's not about the original being too expensive.
It's about CRIMINALS selling clones that are labeled as the original.
It's like you going to the Chevy dealer to buy a new Silverado. You paid for a Chevy Silverado. You expect a Chevy Silverado. It says Chevy...
250 amps at 24v sounds about right.
A "normal" 12v car/truck will draw about 500 amps +/-. So it makes sense a 24v starter would be about 250. Maybe a little more b/c it is a BIG starter compared to a car. I would put a 300 amp, 24v fuse which would be 600 amps at 12v (two 300 amp, 12 fuses...
Run a couple of these in parallel for the desired cranking amps:
High Amperage Circuit Breaker
or these for solar panel/battery systems:
CFB-400T 400 amp fuse with holder, Cut Cable Connection
High Amperage Inverter Fuses & Breakers
Or these used for boats:
DC Circuit Breakers - Blue Sea...
I've never flipped the light switch to that position. What does it do, open the brake light circuit & energize infrared bulbs to be used with night vision goggles?
Oh it'll work. That is until the guys with mo-hawks and spiked leather gloves surround you on the freeway with their modified Detroit hod rods & bust through your Deuce's window trying to get the last box of Cracker Jax left on planet Earth away from you.
When TSHTF I think something a little...
Let me add,
A few months ago I came out in the morning to find my driver's door fully open & many of the dash switches out of position.
Someone climbed in & tried to start it. Obviously they were too dumb to realize those big, black, plastic knobs right in front of them were battery cutoffs...
You could. An alternator is an alternator. It spins and makes electricity. I simply ordered Wolverine's kit for simplicity. Personally, I love 1-wire alternators. I've put them on many vehicles in the past. It gets rid of so many electrical problems associated with old wiring, old...
The battery cutoffs work great. If I did it over I would put them on the + side, not the - side. I'm running both 12v & 24v. If I accidentally leave a 24v circuit open (such as the headlights) when the truck is off then the 24v batteries will back drain through the 12v alternator. Putting...
Rubery Owen Powered Trailer for Land Rover 101
I think it was only during jackknifing that rollover was a problem.
An easy solution would be to install safety switches on the bumperettes. Have them trigger a pneumatic piston that disengages the driveline via a throwout bearing. That way...
So how do you know if it's a genuine ARB? Is it best to order directly from ARB & spend an extra $100 per axle to ensure what arrives is a real ARB? It's kind of late to realize, after $3K + shipping, that what arrived at your door was an imitation ARB. Undoubtedly the retailer will argue...
There is no logic. I'm stuck in the 1980's price-wise. Inflation under Clinton, Bush, & Obama is just starting to digest mentally with me.
Too many projects, too little money. I was just curious about the markup on the kit.
But I ran across that cross-drilled drum thread last night. I...
Thanks.
Yes I noticed the fronts & rears were different. I'm curious to follow this thread for your long-term feedback wrt off roading, brake fade, etc.
I've never heard of drilling drums. That's really interesting (& much, much cheaper than a disc brake conversion).
I wonder if it would be applicable for off-road uses with sand, mud, mucky water? I would think the holes would let sand in & score up the drum.
Drilled Brake Drums
Explain that one to the DMV. Those springs are rated at 1.5 tons. He can register it as a custom trailer build, but not as an M105 if he's going to go over 3K of cargo.
Mudguppy,
Did your disc brake kits come with a Parts Number list for replacement parts?
Other than the custom brackets, it seem to me all the parts in the brake kit are off-the-shelf components.
While I applaud the engineering, I'm sticker-shocked by the price. It seems to me those kits...
