I am still new here, and I don't know if this topic has been covered all that much, but here goes.
Maybe you heard of the golf balls inside the tires, the BBs, and the ceramic beads but; have you heard about using Anti-Freeze?
I was searching for one thing, and I came across something...
Cheap Lift the hard way
I bought an old Postal truck (Ford 1992 CF 8000) 3-Ton Box with a 4000 Lb. Lift
Ya know, they still make these things; I saw a brand new one in NYC.
It has a 7.8 Brazilian Turbo Engine with an automatic transmission, and a pneumatic starter.
I really like the...
exhaust brake
I found this item years ago, and I wanted to use it on a rotary engine motorcycle for extra stopping power.
PS. I have never had much luck with High-Temp Loctite.
I have found that painting my bolt threads with a dab of aluminum paint works much better.
I could not get the...
adapter mount
I would like to have a bolt on adapter for a spin on filter.
I have Chrysler flathead-6 with a engine mounted adapter that uses a spin on filter.
Dose anyone know of such a part, and where to find it?
I have been yelled at for saying this, but I am going to say it again anyway!
Head bolts, and bottom end bolts have a built in stretch factor. When they are torqued to specs, they stretch. Once stretched they must not be re-used.
"ARP" makes the best bolts on the market. If they don't...
Every state has its own set of laws. In Oklahoma anything over 5-ton requires a CDL. However in New York, any air brakes requires a CDL. Just one more thing,.. The Law Follows the License. Plate, not your driver's License. However with a CDL you can drive anything.
odds & Ends
Stage 1
Fiberglass over Foam board looks to be my best bet.
Rounding the back corners by cutting a few pressure relief slots before the bending process should make the job easy enough.
The top could be could be made of 4" foam board glued flat on upper edges of the vertical...
Marketing
Have you priced a fiberglass hard top for a Jeep, or a Geo Tracker? They start at $1200, and go up from there. However, the modifications are endless: mirrors, lights, vents, glass, and wipers.
I just love brainstorming with you guys.
Working with what you got
When I lived in Jakarta, we made motorcycle seats in that exact same way. You are right, it is a great plan!!! If there was a soft top already in place I would do just that. However, I gotta scrounge around for a few parts here, and a few more there.
Rag tops
There are many reasons I dislike rag tops.
The flapping noise.
Yahoos with knives.
Winter cold
Sun Rot Short life span
It is not the money. If I had to do a rag top I would install it, and saturate it with fiberglass resin, and hardener to stiffen it up, and make it rock solid...
Rounded Corners
I like it!!! I know a little about using a steel door, and frame (Buck, & Wing) to bend light sheet metal but the hinges limit the depth of the bend. One problem with that, 8' doors don't grow on trees. So a homemade buck might be just the trick.
As for framing out the top...
Swap a Top
I have been thinking on this project for a while: almost three days. I had even considered cutting the top off of a 1992 Ford CF 8000, and moving it over to the Deuce.
Have tape measure will travel.
Benders
It seems I don't even have the frame for a soft top. I have a few tools such as a panel saw I can run with an abrasive wheel. A torch, a mad dog nibbler, and such. It has been years since I played auto body repairman.
The plan is to make it low in front with a protruding rounded...
