    M43 Resurrection

This was an unfortunate set of circumstances.........But it could have been worse. We could have sheared the driveshaft to the oil pump and kept the distributor spinning and burnt up the new engine with no oil pressure. I would rather pull the engine, turn it upsidown and yank the camshaft...

cure for death wobble on stock m1028

I just saw this thread...... With the adding a lift, suspension or body there is a lot in the steering geometry that changes. However the most signifigant change is the 39.5 super swampers. When we started to go from 36's, 37's to 39.5's and 41's, 42's on the Dana 60's we got the death wobble...

    M43 Resurrection

The falling bolts, dropped wrenches, sand, gravel and grease ALWAYS find the most inopportune place to land when you are the person under the vehicle. Mouth, Ear hole, Nose and Eyes are always my personal favorite. :|

The Unicorn; Or M37 broken long side axle shafts

Back on track I want to thank all you guys for the tips on where to get aftermarket axles. I had a line on some several years ago and that dried up. I'm gonna call Foote today and ask some questions about the manufacturing process, material and cost. When I have results I will let you all know...

    M43 Resurrection

Zout. Please do not take my post the wrong way. I was joking. I'm not mad at ya or anyone else for stressing safety in the shop. There is nothing wrong with the "Hey! Put that 25 lb. hammer down before someone loses a toe." speech. GD almost had a nut fall into her eye while she was under the...

    M43 Resurrection

To sum up what we have learned: 1: A little brother is capable of teaching his big sis how to wear non steel toe footwear in the shop. Our shop is fairly relaxed with regard to OSHA regulations. 2: See note 1 and replace footwear with respirator. 3: When sis say's I'll mix a little paint...

From Wikipedia: A typical chemical analysis of this material: Iron Carbon 3.3 to 3.4% Silicon 2.2 to 2.8% Manganese 0.1 to 0.5% Magnesium 0.03 to 0.05% Phosphorus 0.005 to 0.04% Sulfur 0.005 to 0.02% Other elements such as copper or tin may be added to increase tensile and yield strength...

The Unicorn; Or M37 broken long side axle shafts

You are absolutely correct. The 327 no matter how badly tuned will put out more power and torque than the 230 Derge flathead........It was amazing how quickly the shaft grenaded......I did not even get a chance to shift gears.

The Unicorn; Or M37 broken long side axle shafts

I would have to agree with your assesment about the old school metalurgy. And design has a big role to play in this as well. It's like the difference between Cast iron and Ductile iron. Ductile Iron has more Nickel cast into the mix and that hardens the metal making it more durable. Ductile...

The Unicorn; Or M37 broken long side axle shafts

To give everyone some background info about what happened I will explain. Dad traded for the truck in the picture. It's missing a bunch of sheet metal. It's on crappy, old, worn out tires. It has a 327 Chevy with a 2 bbl carb. Nothing special in the engine. SM 420 trans. I was at the top of...

The Unicorn; Or M37 broken long side axle shafts

I am starting this thread to give some knowledge to the people that may not have much experinece with the M37. And some substantiation to the debate about how strong M37 axle shafts are. This subject has been debated at length on this forum. However ..........nopics

Why the Deuce Doesn't Have These I'll Never Know!

OMG!!!!! I have completely wasted 2 hours reading this.......With that much invested I have to post a reply. NDT tires: NDT stands for Non Directional Tread. They are not great traction tires. And everyone including the goobermint knows it/knew it. If they wanted shear traction they would have...

42" BFG Krawlers, Red label. Very hard to get that size tire in the "soft" competition compound........But we know a fella. 8)

    Headlights

A DOT repersentative or Law Enforcement Officer, LEO, can inspect your vehicle for saftey reasons. If they feel your lights are too bright they can cite you for a violation......... I have not seen 60/55W 24 volt bulbs. I have never looked for them too hard because frankly the 75/70W bulbs are...

    New to SS

I didn't read anywhere that it is required for you to own an MV to be a member of the SS site. You should just be an enthusiatic type of person when it comes to having the OD iron disease. Once you catch OD iron fever, embrace your plight. Don't seek a cure......There is no known cure. There...

Whats the reason behind motor oil in the fuel tank..?

I like the word free[thumbzup]........And I am sure someone will differ with my opinion but if it works for you then so be it.:grd: I have heard the improvements you describe as anticdotal evidence of an improvement. That there is no scientific basis for said improvement........That statement...

    Bought a 5 ton

I have two M-35's that are candidates for the LDS.........You got a line on some engines? My dad and I found 2 trucks at auction out here with LDS motors but the motors are LDS-2's designed to go in front of an Allison 6 speed automatic and the engines and trucks are too rare to part...

    Bought a 5 ton

I was gonna say good luck but you already made it home so good job. [thumbzup] That being a multifuel M-54 is it a 1968 or a 1958 truck? I'm lookin' for some LDS motors and I'm just tryin' to see what trucks to look for as parts.

Whats the reason behind motor oil in the fuel tank..?

I'm a live and let live type of guy. So I'm not lighting you up. But honestly I would remove your post and repost something that says "hypothetically what would happen if I ran the "off road" dyed fuel?. Or "is the off road dyed fuel different than the regular on road fuel"? Or something like...

    Vacuum to collect ALT. Fuels

You would actually be suprised how much vacuum some automotive fuel/vacuum hose can take. We use it to vacuum break the beads on tires while out in the mountains. Kinda hard to take the tire machine with us. And not everyone has bead locks. So we gotta be creative with breakin a bead without...
