RangerBob, I'm disappointed I didn't see this thread until now...I was subscribed but somehow it didn't hit my email. It would have been nice to do lunch or something. Anyways, I hope it was a nice trip (as nice as Barrow in April is).
That Thiokol is a few houses down from me. I know the owner...
I've got a heater with the arctic bed cover and it heats up pretty quick back there. Mine takes a while to start up, maybe a minute or so. Is that normal? It sounds like a little jet engine.
I'm up in Barrow but my Deuce is hibernating for the winter in Fairbanks. Shouldn't be too long now before she comes out to play. How often do you get to Fairbanks?
Is anyone picking up a truck this week or next at Fort Irwin. I need a jump for a truck that runs but the batteries are dead. GL won't slave them as the trucks are offsite. If you can help jump it you can drive it to the lowboy.
Or guess I might need to call AAA:)
P.S. My EUC cleared in 7...
Thanks. With the arctic cover and heater, it stays nice and toasty back there. I haven't used it in the extreme cold yet but it is pretty comfortable in the spring and fall to sleep in.
And the (almost) finished pics. I still need to paint it green and install the heat shield but here it is.
In case you're wondering, that's a full size jeep behind the truck.
The muffler was rubbing on the mirror tubes and since I have enough metal rattling together, I decided to build a piece to give it a little more clearance. The tubes would be easy enough to bend (go drive too close to a tree) but I decided to build the bracket. The pics show the amount of...
I installed a Donaldson Muffler (M070028) on my deuce and wanted to show some pics. It was a pretty simple install and is much quieter. Sometimes I miss the noise but it's better for the kid's ears (and hopefully will help keep the neighbors happy). Of course I procrastinated the install this...
I saw this one in a parade this summer. Check out their website-

Am I the only one that has trouble sleeping if I don't check out the site right before going to bed? Maybe I really am addicted? Perhaps this site is to us what facebook is to the masses.
A couple thoughts:
A fan shroud is vital to keep the air flowing where you want it to. Other wise it often likes the path of least resistance (like me)
At the race shop I used to work at, we ran Redline Water Wetter in the cooling systems. In dyno tests, we found it dropped the temp about 5-7...
FWIW - When I bought my Deuce, the previous owner said to not run anything but diesel through them. He had a diesel additive or something else mixed with the diesel and it didn't work. He pulled the lines and cleaned everything out. I don't have any first hand experience but I'm going to take...
I'm not sure about the ones along the Chena but I was driving mine around this summer, until the radiator started leaking. I'm on The Slope but my Deuce is in Fairbanks. I have historic plates and I think it was $25 - one time fee.
