I recently acquired a '71 M35A2 that had a leaky axle at the fwd-tandem axle.
We replaced the seals, repacked the bearings & all seems fine now.
A few days later I checked my axle vents & 2 of the 3 appeared to be somewhat clogged.
-The front axle vent seemed to "hiss" after I did the...
WHERE are the vents located for the TRANNY & also for the XFERCASE?
I'm going to be checking fluid levels tomorrow before a long drive & I want to ensure that my vents can "spin & bounce".
(I figure that they must be located on the TOP of the trans & xfer, but I'm guessing that they are...
WHERE does the coolant filter install? (pics would be NICE!)
& who is the best source for these?
& how often does the filter typically need to be changed (starting with a clean batch of antifreeze)?
AND I see a few references to a 60/40 mix...
Is this 60% water & 40% antifreeze OR vice...
It all depends on how it was treated & how well it was maintained.
Odds are good that the engine has been replaced at least once.
And it is common for the speedo and/or tach to be swapped out, either with a new one or a used one.
Condition is everything!
Look for leaks, rebuild tags, &...
What did you mean when you said "We checked it out and the Front axel was not spinning."??
Was the xfercase engaging the front axle?
Were the rear axles spinning?
or did something make you think the clutch malfunctioned??
Perhaps they used a "standard" sticker to simply indicate that an approved M/C & booster has been installed??
(i.e didn't have one that said "hydrapress"??)
It DOES SUCK getting old!
Be nice to her, as you'll be old one day too!
She's just lucky that she wasn't a little to the left or she wouldn't have seen 85!!
Looks like an afternoon with the BFH, a can of Camo spray paint, & a new reflector & she'll be "good as new"!! ;-)
OF COURSE, if the insurance company will buy you a drop-side to replace your "totaled" bed that might be an option to consider......
(Yeah, that Toyota probably IS...
It only leaks radiation becuz it is brand new.
Once the radiation ages a bit it will enter its half-life and stop leaking!
Sorry, I couldn't resist either!! :-P
I've always suspected that leaving the engine stop pulled while parked was a bad idea.
I've seen lots of guys who leave their engine stopped pulled so that it is in the desired position for doing a hydraulic-lock check prior to starting.
But once I noticed that nice polished engine stop...
Nice looking Truck! :-D
Winch Top Plate damage is pretty common. Easy to replace.
Shackles are easy to find. Pretty cheap.
Check "V" side of belts for cracks. They can look good from the "text" side and still be old.
Spring Driver's Seat is a PLUS! Your BUTT will thank you!!
