Okay back up and running. So had two problems. The vacuum pump was out and the governor gear was bad too. Luckily I had a spare for both of them.
Now I need to repair the old ones so that I have spares again. Does any one have the part number for the replacement gear?

Last week the transmission suddenly quit shifting. There was no slipping, noises, or any type of warning. It was running fine, I stopped at a stop light once it turned green I started to move on and it would no longer shift out of first.
Has anyone ever had this happen?
What...
I appreciate the feed back and advice. I looked into changing the axles out for come thing larger and decided that I did not want to go through the trouble of all the work that is involved. This is my daily driver and don't abuse it so I really feel the original axles should serve me well. Plus...
I had a reputable company that I trust rebuilt it. They put in new seals, bearings, ect, and re geared it for me.
He did not want to put the Gov-Lok back in but I figured that I did not have any trouble out of the last one so I rolled the dice and lost.
I can't see that it is their fault...
Yep. It was quite impressive. Now I just need to figure out what to put back in it (the purpose of this thread).
Any suggestions. I'm leaning toward the Detroit but open to options. I just want something stronger and more reliable.
I had a break in the weather and some time today so I pulled the differential cover and found this. I am no expert or even a novice on axles but looks to me like the Gov-Lok came apart.
Not sure yet. I got it home last night and it has been cold and raining today. All I know is there are parts sticking through the differential cover. I am assuming it it the Gov-Lok at this time but want know for sure until I can pull the cover.
Thanks for the offer. I have a spare M1009 at the house, so I have a spare set of axles. I just want to find a different options that would be more reliable. I don't abuse my M1009 but do plenty of towing with it. Nothing crazy heavy.

Rebuilt axles and re-geared to 4:10 last July.
So I was heading down the highway yesterday and I heard a clunk, then everything acted normal. A short time later I heard it again and a couple more times while looking for an exit to get off the highway.
Got off the highway and found...
Update:
So I ended up regearing instead of axel swap. Insides of Axel's look great and due to the cost and work and fact I don't get crazy off road I decided it was the best option for now
I ended up with 4:10. I kept going back and forth with the decision but due to towing the camper I opted...
Okay, I have really look this over now. It appears to be designed to allow air flow from the outside even when all levers are in the off position. It appears that the air will flow around the heater core when the heat is off and when you cut the heat on the flap closes that fresh air bypass...
Okay took the one off my parts truck. So the flap in the second picture is supposed to have foam on it to seal off the air flow when closed, correct?
Mine doesn't have any foam in it anywhere but all flaps seems to working correctly when you move the levers.
Thanks for all the input and ideas.
I would prefer to do the full axle swap, but it appears to be more cost effective and for my use not necessary to just keep the axles I have. Plus I have another set sitting around if I need parts in the future.
So now I need to decide on either 3.73 or...
Does the fresh air that comes in from the cowl at the windshield go through the heater core?
I was thinking of taking off the cowl and sealing / covering the fresh air holes. Has anyone done this? What are the down sides?
Did anyone ever find a solution to this?
My M1009 is blowing hot air through the floor vent, stronger flow the faster your drive, event with all the heat controls turned to the off position. It's 90 some degrees outside and the heat is killing me.
So I have been doing a lot of research and am trying to make a decision.
First I have a 1984 M1009 stock configuration.
I am trying to decide what to do about my axles. I really do not like to 3:08 gearing. I am eventually gong to a 3" lift and 33" tires but I first got to get the axles...
Okay been on here reading for awhile about after market transmission coolers. I have a few questions hopefully someone will have answers for.
I plan on getting to using a Fin and plate cooler and adding a spin on filter in line on the line feeding the cooler. I also plan on running new lines...
