I was at the Gathering last year and have photos of most all the trucks that were there. The current Herpa M54 "kit" doesn't have any mirrors with it nor did it have the aircleaner or exhaust which had to be scratch built. In my younger days, I wouldn't think twice about fab-ing a set of...
I remember having one of the UH-1's many years ago, but it's long gone, let alone the extras. I don't need the mini-guns for this truck anyway, just 3 50 cals. I am very familiar with the UH-1B as I volunteer at an air museum for open cockpit days and work the Huey. I have re-enactor uniforms...
I haven't found mirror yet, I'm not sure I want to go into that much detail in this scale. I'd probably have to make them anyway, doubt I'd find anything close.
Never know when you'll have to repell a terrorist attack!!!
Mostly it's the challenge of doing something different. HO scale is hard to work on, I used to do lots of detailing on locos and kits but old age is making it tougher. I ran across the M54 when browsing the Herpa list looking for...
Today saw some great progress. I got the gun box installed (0.10" styrene as it's about 7/8" thick in scale), the windscreen armor, exhaust stack and air filter. I also removed the winch and moved the front bumper back, and made an insert for the box floor of ammo cans.
Next is the door armor...
Yes, Bill, it should be done as well as the 1/35 scale Wolfman and maybe the 1/35 Satan's Lil Helper. You are correct, all of them would be very cheap to get there, but look at them wrong and they'll break!!
I got mine thru a local hobby shop. I think you can go thru Walthers and order direct, though you'll pay for shipping. Last I knew they were on sale at Walthers for about $15. The Herpa number of the M54 is 743341.
I have to decide if I want to remove the winch. PB, if you're doing "Proud"...
After reading the thread below on the HO scale deuce, I was looking thru the Herpa (formerly Roco) offerings in HO and came across a M54 (5 Ton) and they were on sale. I had my dealer order one and it came in yesterday. I've already started converting it to a guntruck, I'll need to decide...
Have you tried contacting the Historical Construction Equipment Association? They have some members interested in military stuff and it's possible that civi stuff might be compatible.
I have a M54 on order with an extra kit of machine guns (looks like a GE minigun, too!) I'll be doing a guntruck conversion when it all comes in. Haven't decided which one will have to wait until the guns arrive to see how many of what type. (Herpa, ex-Roco) 1/87.
MTA will be the first one for 2011 on April 16-17 in NJ. Vehicle displays and vendors. There is a flea market in Boxborough, MA sometime in March, will likely be in the upcoming events forum shortly.
Welcome, there is a wealth of info here. Do you go to any of the MV shows? "Local" ones would be COMVEC, Chester, CT, MTA in NJ, Redball in PA, Weare in NH, RI in RI.
I flew down to Louisville last weekend in the Lear, only took just over 1.5 hours. I'd love to be able to get there the same way in Aug, but alas, the flight sim has to stay on my computer....aua
Depends on what you call your "area".
This past year (and I'll assume next year as well) there was the Comvec show in June in CT, the MTA show in NJ in April, Weare, NH in July and Quonset Pt, RI and Gilbert, PA in Sept. I didn't make RI this year as they had it the same weekend as Gilbert...
They didn't have the Webster Show this past year (2010) and I haven't heard if it's even being considered for next year. I'd venture a guess that it's done, but you never know. It was a good show in 2009....
