    Winch help

Another thing that is known to happen: The pin is engaged to keep the drum from rotating, but overlooked and the winch is powered in or out, shearing/bending the pin. That could be part of the hangup.

    Winch help

And when you have it apart, be sure to use plenty of never sieze on the fasteners. Having a winch to add, is a real good indicator that your well on the way to a green addiction. Welcome!

    Bent tow bar ears question

Use plenty of heat - orange color. Don't do it cold. Is it just one side that is bent?

Can you mix 'n match airpacks? - One long one short on an USAF Deuce.

To a point, and that's my point: skidding wheels is all that you need, and then its over kill. What is the mean operating pressure? Certainly less the the 120 psi found in air brake systems.

    CCKW arctic cab

My M-37 came with one of those early hard tops. I still have it, but have since upgraded to a later style hard top. The first ones had a wooden frame work for the door windows.

Can you mix 'n match airpacks? - One long one short on an USAF Deuce.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but does air pressure effect operation, or just volume? The "low air buzzer" comes on at 60 PSI, so that must be intended minimum, in a Deuce. The dashboard gauge reads a maximum pressure of 120 PSI, so the regular operating pressure must be less. What is...

    changing tires on the rear

There is quite a knack to changing tires - that is besides doing it correctly, and safely, at the same time. At the present rates, it will probably take about 8 changes, to pay for your tools. I said 8, but sometimes you might have to do some over, because you didn't do it right, missed the...

Can you mix 'n match airpacks? - One long one short on an USAF Deuce.

There is a built in bias between the steering axel, and the rear axles, depending on when & how the truck is loaded. The difference between the two air packs (even two of the same kind), will not be noticeable.

    Fuel, contaminated, odd...

I can't help thinking of two very basic ways to remove the crud & water from fuel, even though they (or one), are probably not applicable to some geographic areas. 1st is set the container outside over night, colder the better, as in below zero. Then just pour the clean fuel out the next...

    1953 GMC X M211 prospective purchase

They have a small, underpowered engine (302 CMC gasser), if your comparing it to the M35A2, multifuel. I had one tranny go bad, many years ago, and converted it to a 5 speed. My other one has a shifting glitch between 2 & 3, but never let me down. I still have both of these, "running when...

    M35A2 questions

Don't know the answer, but an observation: The hour meter vs speedo ratio average on my OTR tractor was about 30 MPH, even with running it all night/never shutting her down...... You can't believe the instrument readings because they were often traded out. Does it run? I'd want to know...

    Hi all, some random questions...

I think that you are speaking of the, "Grass is greener, on the other side of the fence" syndrome. Its always that way, or maybe, often that way, but often too, you just have to pay your money, and take your chances!

30k Fuel Fired Arctic Heater Installation

The orange ducting is more desirable to work with. The early ducting that it replaced was a dark brown, like in my 211's, was fiberglas, which was very unpleasant, indeed. The heaters put out plenty of heat that is often best regulated by simply rolling down the window. The brass rod, fixed...

30k Fuel Fired Arctic Heater Installation

The fuel fired heater is part of an Arctic Winterization Kit. Pictured is the wrong truck, but the typical location for either a coolant heater, or the fuel fired heater. The air temperature will be higher, but within tolerance.

    Survival 109 build

The work your doing is very interesting. Some observations, in reference to your use of "simplicity" - I think that is good! Off hand, I would say that the need for check valves for the two systems/one compressor is necessary, but isn't there a check valve in there already? Stock compressor...

Coolant Heater oil pan shroud Picture

Need a picture of how the arctic fuel fired coolant heater's exhaust is connected & routed to the shroud around the oil pan. I have put in a NOS heater, but can't find how its exhaust gets over there. Some other insight & direction, would be appreciated. I have some pieces that head in that...

    ABS relay valve

I think your right - otherwise your brakes would be inoperative. However, its not uncommon for those valves to go bad, especially if they have had a history of a contaminated air system, like bad drier, etc. If I had an OTR truck with an inop ABS system, I would be horrified at the prospect of...

    Tire chain question

Yes, but I was doing that stuff, before they Glamorized It, on television. I never ran it much in the summer (too dusty, and my truck didn't have AC), so I couldn't keep the dust out (or the mosquitoes). The first few times I drove it, was during the construction phases, in an old M211...

    Alcohol evaporator

The alcohol snifters work good, and they came with the Arctic Kits, that had the fuel heaters in them. That's all I have ever used. To answer the question, heavy truck shops will have stuff called "Air Line Antifreeze". Its about the same as "Heet" that is put in gas tanks (and is...
