I bought my replacement on flea- bay for $25. It's the norgren and it was the exact replacement, even down to the billet aluminum screw on cover. They are on sale all the time.
To the poster that has the truck air set to 105 psi, I hope you never get pulled over for a dot inspection. 105 max...

BTW: it's a savings of $300 a tire - that's 30% less. I think the conti has a more aggressive tread for off road bite.
To each their own. I just get tired ( no pun) of seeing folks installing the wrong bead tires on the A3 rim with only an inch or two clearance between tires. There's a...
Elsewhere in this thread was posted a link to the conti catalog. You'll see without much effort that the spec for the conti mpt-81 indicates an MPT bead and a 10" wide rim. This is the A3 spec rim. I may be making a big assumption here but maybe continental tires named that particular model...
I bought my authorized NATO replacement conti mpt-81 for only $650 each plus tax and another $125 for total freight cost. That is alot cheaper than $925 per mich. How much was freight?
As discussed in the many A3 threads on aft, use a fluid rated API-GL4 and/or Allison C-4 rated. I find that the Napa HD transmission and hydraulic oil, PN 85-405 carries the ratings for Allison and is economical at $60 for a 5Gal pail.
Got two mpt-81 on the steer axle. Rotated stuff aroun to put the best 4 on the back. Now I'm saving change to buy another two new mpt-81 for a rear axle. Eventually they will all be mpt-81. The 81's have the same dimensions as the 14.5 r20 so you can mix. I wouldn't do that on the steer...
All 7 tires on my '95 A3 were 1995 date code Mich XL. Seems they might have been the original tires since the truck had less than 10K on the clock. The front right was rotten to the point that I could easily wedge coins in the sidewall cracks. The rest were in various states of decay and 3...
The idle speed is supposed to drop a little when you shift from neutral to drive or reverse. On my A3, neither the unloaded idle in neutral or the idle in drive or reverse is ever rough. It has always purred like a typical cat 4-cycle diesel.
Don't the zombies come out after the EMP renders everything unusable? That's why I bought my A3. The CTIS just pimps up the cab so I can get the chicks in my ride! It doesn't need to actually work.
Uh, what ECM? There is none. There is a mechanical high pressure fuel pump, that's all. The injector timing and metering on the CAT 3116 engine for the A3 is all mechanical and under the valve cover. There is no traditional Bosch or roosamaster metered pump like on the A2 or CUCV and...
Why pay 50% of new mpt-81 that are the NATO stock tires for sight unseen mich rot masters? Mich always had a problem with rot. For my safety and that of the vehicles on the road around me, I'll buy new contis from a legit dealer that I have recourse with should I have any problems or find any...
Totally cool!
It's great to see someone teaching practical problem solving the old fashioned way of trial & error. The consequences here are simple - screw up and you get wet. That's not so bad. Putting the MVs in just makes it all cooler!
Hats off to those who are truly preparing our future...
It's tough to think of a logical reason where both glad hands simultaneously don't work other than the valve for each is closed or is closed when you think it should be open. This is especially true when one considers that the two air systems are totally independent by design just to prevent...
The main manifold is likewise very simple. It seems that the CTIS is very sensitive to oil. It gums up the wheel valve and the manifold. This is probably why the A3 has the added Haldex air dryer added. If the crud and slobber that the dryer is supposed to catch gets into the manifold, which...
I bought my conti mpt-81 new for around $650 each fresh new stock in August. Shipping for two cost another $100. I mounted both by myself. No more cracked and rotten sidewalls on my steer axle!
Nope. All mechanical injection system that is classic Cat. I think that there are 3116 variants that have electronic fuel control, but they are not used for the A3 application.
