Update: finally got head separated from the body. I'm on step 12 from the AMBAC manual which is where the special tool and arbor press is called for.
First question: it says "With plunger in its highest position"? I'm attaching a pic of how my pump is presented right now. I'm unclear here...
Okay, got it pulled and on bench. Didn't match diagram in the TM. But, finally found an online manual from AMBAC that does and proceeding. I'm at point of trying to get the hydraulic head seperated from the main body and having no luck yet. Manual says "in some instances, it may be necessary to...
Thanks for comment, Keith. So no matter how the pump is removed and irrespective of whether the engine crank is moved while IP is out or not I will still need to reinstall the pump with the alignment pin (1/8th" drill bit) in the pump and the crank aligned to PC of #1 compression stroke (either...
Hey Guys, just bought two trailer mounted MEP002's with ASK enclosures. Both appear to be in excellent condition. One I've started on shows 410 hours. Model year 1991. Fuel tank was about 3/4 full and smelled stale but not too gummy. Oil looked new and overfilled - an oddity later explained by...
Have you gotten around to installing the PCMDS system yet? I have a similar M813 on which I have one awaiting install. I'm curious as to how / where you mounted it. Any chance that you could post us some pics if so?
thanks,
Ross
Hi Lild,
Yes, replacing the inhibit sensor on drivers side top rear of head did resolve my problem.
I got it at Napa. I don't remember part# but I think it would be one listed for a K30 J-code 6.2 diesel.
The replacement sensor did have a 2 pin connection unlike the original. So, I had to...
Yes Sir. I ended up replacing the glow plugs, controller card, one battery and drivers side alternator. But, I think my problem with hard warm starts was caused by and resolved by replacement of the temperature sensor at the top rear of the drivers side head...
I have a couple of Marine Corp M800 series 5 ton dump trucks that came with Detroit Lockers. Albeit they can be a little harder to turn (especially loaded and under power). But, man, those trucks will go anywhere.
So, when I bought my M35A3 recently and realized that they are open diffs I...
In see this post is a little old but maybe a good place to get a quick answer to a simple question regarding 5 ton wheel / tire upgrades. I just bought some 14.00r20's already mounted on 10 hole wheels. I was lead to believe that these would just bolt up to the M817 Marine Corp dump truck I...
Don't know if this conclusively answers my question. But, the attached Allison white paper on transmission fluids does clearly indicate that I am better off with ATF than 15w40 in the tranny without the internal transmission cooler...
If you look behind the cab on the passenger side you'll see a cluster of three plastic hoses that come up just above the metal rear bulkhead and makes a 180 degree loop then back down. Those are three vents and one of them goes to the top of the transmission. Apparently, the vent i.d. is so...
Spent the afternoon servicing the air dryer assembly. Took it off the truck so I could inspect, clean and service it well. Replaced the two filters on top. There was a bit of moisture and gunk in the coalescing filter cavity but the coalesent filter itself wasn't really that dirty. Replaced...
I'm barely ahead of you on the learning curve as I also recently got my first A3. As to transmission, I also switched to ATF and used the Valvolene equivalent. Bought 5 gallons at NAPA. My situation was a bit different as I discovered oil in my radiator and determined it to be a failed...
Thanks Rusy Gears for the input and suggestions. I have not serviced the dryer & filters but have them in hand and was just waiting for the next free, weather tolerable day to do so. I also had the delight of finding a box of parts left in my truck courtesy of Uncle Sam containing (amoung...
I just recently expanded my MV collection to include about a 1996 vintage M35A3. Pretty clean truck with 3,100 miles. The tires hold air perfectly and the CTIS appears to be working and complete. However, when I turn the CTIS on it thinks it has a flat. I have just begun trying to diagnose...
Ok, that's great guys. I sure do appreciate the help as I'd never have figured ut this parts situation. I'll run by napa tomorrow and get one on order. Hopefully I'll be back in a warm truck before winter gets too cold.
Thanks,
Ross
Does anyone know if this napa fan motor will work in an M35A3? I recently bought a new A3. Fan motor worked fine when I first got it home but a few days later it's dead. Checked current at switch as well as wires going into motor (both at 28 volts). So, I assume it just went bad. This motor...
Good news and BAD? news:
GOOD NEWS: I ran to the NAPA store and bought a simple female/female union and just bypassed the regulator. Walla, very nice steering and no more air problems. While I was down there i also (maybe?) discovered why the front tires didn't want to air up the same as...
BadMastard,
I do have air (sporadically) coming from the steering air pressure regulator on the drivers side frame rail. I blows a great volume out of the hole in the bottom of the cover (if it's on) or just around the top of the knob if its off. Of course, I don't know how it's SUPPOSED to...
Oh, and BTW: I have all of the filters (my tranny filter is leaking slightly right now) and I'll be swapping over to Transynd as soon as my 5 gallons comes in at the local parts store.
