Yep, it really is that simple. My truck came like yours and a couple others I've seen with the 200A dual voltage setup, with the 14v not connected. Not really sure why leaving that 14v tap unconnected seems to be SOP for trucks that get upgraded to the 200A alternator.
Just run a cable from the...
Well, I don't have an onboard air setup currently but I'm planning on putting one in. I've got a couple parts for it I scored cheap but haven't really set in stone where everything is going to go.
For the compressor I've got a brand new Extreme Outback 24v milsurp unit I picked up for about...
Found a Deuce/5 ton tow bar axle shackle (gave it to a friend with a 5 ton), a moldy Motor Equipment Dispatch example form, a Tennessee NG patch (no surprise since my truck came from 1-181 FA), an equipment records binder I cleaned up and now use to keep my registration and insurance in, some...
SuperBrightLEDs BA9S bulbs
And just an FYI, if you don't put some sort of reflective material inside the caps, only the green and white ones look decent. Red is on the dim side. Also, goes without saying, you're going to be limited to green or white with the green tinted bulb caps if...
I went all LED and didn't look back. I can actually read my gauges now! No worries about heat issues either.
At first I tried the military issue LEDs (NSN 5980-01-438-8939) and they were okay but still not as bright as I'd prefer. The upside was they came with new, clear bulb caps to replace my...
Here's the wiring setup.
First pic: I tapped the positive that was going to the original fan switch. I simply left the original fan switch inside of the dash, mostly to keep the wires plugged up.
Second pic: The positive/input side of the switch. Red wire hanging off goes to the positive tap...
I can't speak to the brand you're using but with the Monstaliner, there was some odor. I put it on when the weather was warm and kept the top off up until about 6 weeks ago but never got any complaints from anyone. No idea if it was necessarily toxic but it was more prevalent when the body was...
Sorry, no actual decibel readings.
It does reduce the engine and road sound a bit but you really see the best results in the elimination of panel resonance and panel joint noise so it doesn't sound like you're riding around in a metal garbage can.
Here's some before and after video I took...
If you've got a Harbor Freight nearby they have the quick stitch tool you'll need, $6. Item #91812, in the household items aisle. Comes with a big spool of thread. I used that on my windows and door skins.
Instructions on using it are pretty simple. I had never done it before either. Here's the...
Can't give you a square footage number but I can tell you my truck tub took 4 gallons each of Lizard Skin Sound Insulation and Ceramic Insulation. That will give you a hair over 3 full coats front to back, including the tailgate. That same amount of Ceramic Insulation will give you a full 2...
I think some folks are forgetting, or maybe didn't know, that Rod Hall Racing as well as the now defunct Off Road America were dropping 502s and even 572s in H1s quite some time ago (I want to say starting in the mid-late 90s) and doing quite well on the 10k running gear since this was before...
If you suspect bad batteries, take them to your local auto parts store and have them tested. Individually they are 12v and no different from any other car battery (aside from being AGMs) and, the test equipment will indicate if there's any issues. Since you're getting 24v measuring just the...
After reading about how much the stock heaters suck on here, I decided I needed to do something to improve the heating before the weather got cold (after I installed a new stock heater to replace a leaking factory one of course!).
I thought about getting one of the diesel fired aux heaters but...
Are you replacing the core only or the whole assembly?
I had to replace mine since mine was leaking when I got my truck but opted to replace the whole assembly just to keep it easy. Plus, a new blower motor couldn't hurt.
Replacing the whole assembly is pretty straightforward.
Disconnect the...
Ah, sorry. Not 100% sure about the 2 man. I know there's a 2 man divider and floor bracket setup for that. If you had some pics of the area, that 2 man floor bracket might be what you need since it conforms to the floor ribs, but otherwise I'll have to defer to someone more knowledgeable.
With the big, vertical windshields on these trucks just asking to get smacked, I installed limb risers to try to prevent that exact thing from happening. Less than $20 to make them.
