RE: Flags Barstow truck has take off steel tops for $500 but they are all in rough shape, the tops are all caved in pretty bad and they wont budge on the price.

Pics of Trip to Jack's Gov Surplus

I spoke to jack once when I was looking for a shelter. He was very friendly and helpful compared to other places I have dealt with (Barstow truck). I wish his place was closer.

    Downshift or not to downshift?

I guess I should clarify that I downshift when coming down hills to help keep the brakes cool and use as much engine braking thats available to help maintain a safe speed, but when Im just driving in regular traffic/flat areas, I dont. When driving these trucks I am always thinking about brake...

    Downshift or not to downshift?

I usually just leave the truck in gear when slowing down to a stop until its just above idle then take it out of gear. I try to keep downshifting to a minumum to save on clutch wear. I figure the brakes are alot easier to change than a clutch.

Turbo boost hits 15 psi plus

I get 14-15 psi and dont go over 1200 without a load but as soon as I hit a decent hill with a load (10k on my last run), I keep the boost at 10 ps or under, otherwise the egt's start to go over 1200. I think the stock pump setting keeps everything right in the safe zone no matter what the load...

    M35A1 with detriot's ???

RE: M35A1 with detriot I would think by jacking up one wheel and trying to turn it would work. If it has a detroit, it wont turn easily if at all or it will make clicking noises . If it doesnt have one it should turn easily assuming the front driveshaft is not hooked up or engaged.

Torque rod anyone have them for sale?

Out of curiosity, which one broke, do you have any pics? Sam Winer Motors in Ohio had the best deals on torque rod inserts when I bought 8 for my truck, they might have complete rods. Robert is a great guy to deal with 330 628-4881.

pics of deuces with 46" XL's

RE: pics of deuces with 46" XL Looks like alot of fun. We dont have any places like that out here with it being so dry. About 10 years ago there was a resevoir nearby that was almost empty while repairs were made on the dam and there was alot of smelly mud. Everytime I went there I broke spider...

All this for a freeze plug?!

Great write up. I have only torn a multi fuel apart and didnt want to buy the wrench so here are pics of one I made. Cost me $15 for the 1/2 inch extension "kobalt" brand from Lowes, I had an extra end wrench to sacrifice for the box end. I had to grind down the outer edge a bit for clearance...

    Looking for first M35A2

I paid $600 to have a dead duece towed home about 200 miles on a dove tail trailer with a winch. This was "the good guy price" with my cousins company. I have since purchased a tow bar and saved thousands of dollars on tow bills.

    Power difference after FDC bypass

RE: Re: performance differences on gas I ran about 5 gallons gas mixed with about 42 gallons diesel and didnt notice any difference and that was with the FDC bypassed. I plan on throwing some WVO in the mix soon.

Yes Im Posting ANOTHER Filter Thread!!

I like the idea of the cut down heater box. Its just wasted space anyway to have that big box.

    Shifter Boots

Looks good Will, I was too lazy to fab anything up and just sheet metal screwed mine in place but I would much rather purchase one of your pre cut pieces. The boots make a very nice addition to the trucks and are very reasonably priced.

    torque rod

I saw an old 5 ton that had been converted to a water truck and had one let go while driving, the whole rear axle ended up tearing out, ripping the brake lines out. They ended up scrapping the truck after that, they definately got their moneys worth. $50 per rod with the inserts is a good deal IMHO.

    Deuces in HI!

I actually looked into buying a $500 duece from Hawaii 5 years ago and shipping was around $3400 IIRC shipped to the port of Los Angles. The guy selling it won it on GL but didnt realize how much shipping was until after the auction ended so he was trying to pawn it off to the next sucker. That...

    Todays motor swap w/pics

Taking it out was easy, putting it back in we needed a come along on the front of the motor to get a better angle of the dangle. The front end was taken apart over several months so we cant take credit for doing everything in one day. The dead motor is now laying on its side in my garage. I hope...
