Marti, I did see that there was not a whole lot of clearance around the suspension so I had my wife drive it at idle, 1st low range, and watch for interference and it was close but no contact. I then drove it around the block, retightened them and backed it in where you see it in the last...
All the roads in the neighborhood are dirt so there isn't any problem with chain bans. Wish I had an easy way to out some weight on the 5th wheel but this should be a good experiment.
We are expecting a big snowstorm in the Denver area for the next two days. It started snowing down here in Franktown, CO (30 miles SE of Denver) which is at 6700" and will normally get twice as much as downtown Denver. It started snowing here on Thursday at 4PM. I had been given a entire set of...
The only thing with doing one side would be that side's diff to spindle drive shaft would still be turning. As stated with an open diff that's no big thing but why not just have the spindle wheel bearings turning on both wheels and nothing else?
Great mod and cheap! I like the zerk fitting. My guess you won't need that front axle for a drive axle 99% of the time anyways The military made hubs like you made for the M37. They were made out of aluminum and had bearing pressed into the hub to support the axle stub and let it stay...
5 ton winch setups use the same type of linkage as your #12. They look like they may be the same piece of hardware and on the 5 ton they are straight. How bent is it?
Check out this post. I had the same problem and it was the throwout bearing as shown in the pics. The military tunnel hoist I used as shown in the pics made it very easy. I had the trans down on some blocks, replaced the throwout bearing and had it bolted back together in about 3.5 hours...
Big bllock 88, do a search for "axle vents". Ther are a ton of old posts on different ways to vent the axles with 1/4" tubing and a variety of fittings. I have done that on two trucks including connecting the trans and transfer case to a single vent line terminating in the cab. seems to work...
I just scrubbed the trailer with a Dawn dish washing soap and water solution and put the paint on. The Behr I used was the primer and paint in one. A little more expensive but its holding up good.
Chalked the pattern then days of 1/4" modelers brush outlining the patterns then roller for the big areas believe it or not. Roller put down a nice even texture and color. The big patterns went on quick and easy.
I used the Behr on this M971 trailer two Colorado winters ago. It is holding up remarkably well. the black and brown are the colotrs I applied. The trailer originally was just solid OD green and the older color as you can see in the picture. I am planning to put the CARC 383 formulla on the...
KsM715, I'm using a 30 inch 3/8" steel rod that I threaded at the bottom with about an inch and half worth of threads. Then a nut on top of the bumper bottomed out on the non threaded part of the steel rod and a nut on the bottom of the bumper which is the one I tighten.
EMR, I agree with you and should have not said "just saying". I am stating that saying these guys were idiots was indeed wrong. Bad headwork maybe but "idiots" doesn't fly with me. I have done some pretty stupid things while in the military and thank God there were no video cameras rolling...
