Thanks to a great fellow Steel Soldier member, my new-to-me MEP-701A generator arrived today. Thanks Timeline98!
Anyway, the sound suppressing cover that goes over the battery area is missing. Does anybody know where I can find one, and perhaps other MEP-701A parts? Thanks. H.
Lucky me, I just won the bid on a MEP-701A genset at Mechanicsburg, PA. I wasn't able to find any hours for loadout in the listing. It was a last second bid, so I didn't have time to call with loadout time questions. Does anyone have experience at Mechanicsburg? It is a time of the...

I parked my WC56 on the front lawn, like I do every memorial Day. A local reporter stopped to take a few pictures, ask a few questions. Occasionally I hear a car or truck honk their horn as they go by. Hal
I won a Snap-on MT480 diesel timing tool on Ebay, but it wasn't quite as mint as described. The small luminosity probe (MT161) needed to connect it to the 6.2 cylinder head was not included. Does anyone have a spare they could sell, or loan out? I could make drawings of one, and see if my friend...
Reading about a CUCV that went swimming.... I know a guy that buys flood damaged cars at auction. Modern ones... He tests the computers with a battery pack that he has in his back pack that he connects to the car battery terminals. If the gauges on the dash display correctly, he is happy and...
I just bought a 1988 Air Force Chevy 6.2 crew cab in the original Air Force blue. The paint is faded, and I can see where the Air Force letters and numbers were on the doors, which have been peeled off. I would like to have the same color and style letters made. Does anyone know of a good...
It isn't a CUCV, but this section of the forum seems like the closest fit.
I just recovered my "new-to-me" truck from Fort Indiantown Gap, and man, what a place that is! I saw green (and tan) everywhere! Most every vehicle I saw there looked like new, other than a few lots with well used...
I will be going to Indiantown Gap PA to pick up what looks like an Air Force crew cab pickup. I may need to park it somewhere in a self storage facility that accepts vehicles, until I can come back with a stronger truck to haul it home. Can anyone recommend a self storage place near the site...
I won the bid on a 1988 Chevy crew cab pickup in Indiantown Gap PA. Anyone available to haul it from there to CT? Time and cost? PM me if able. Thanks.
My M1008 has tie down loops in the bed, a large electrical cable going into the bed, and an aluminum table/rack in the bed. The rear springs look fairly new (Part number stickers on them). I think it may have had some type of equipment mounted in it?
It rides high, and is stiff as can be on...
So my high (Cold) idle solenoid wasn't working. I found no power at the solenoid on the pump when engine was cold/ignition on. I went back to the temp switch on the passenger side rear of the engine. One blade on the switch was gone! The two-wire plug that plugs onto it was melted pretty bad...
I see that the harness that goes from the on/off temp switch on the right rear cylinder head on my M1008 is fried.
I decided to apply 12V with a small jumper to the cold start idle solenoid to see if it works. It activated it, but it also made the relay on the firewall (Glow plug relay) buzz...
I notice that my M1008 has stenciled inside the hood "service done 6-06" and there is also the date 6-06 in the fender wells. How extensive would that service have been? I took a look at my injector pump, and it appears to be new, and has a casting date code of '05. I am thinking that if the...
Well, my 6.5 Suburban started right up today (4 degrees outside), warmed it up and headed off to work. Got about 1/2 mile and it started to starve for fuel and then died. Truck has recent new tank, lift pump, injector pump etc. Looked in the filter housing, barely any fuel. Had it flatbedded...
My M1008 has troop seats in the bed, but some of the pins that hold them in the up position are missing. They appear to be stainless steel, with an attached "lanyard" to keep them from getting lost. Is there a source of these out there somewhere? I need five. The hardware store has similar pins...
I just picked up a trailer, and there are two different tan colors on the tailgate. The lower larger section looks better to my eye right now, and I am wondering what color (and number) it is. The top section of tan isn't bad either, and my truck will probably end up being one of these colors...
24 inches of fresh snow here in my section of CT. I was using my neighbor's Isuzu trooper to plow his tenant's long driveway. Unknown to me was a drop off along one side of the driveway. I got a front wheel over the edge and down. Stuck. Darn! So I get his Kubota 4x4 diesel tractor and try to...
When I got my M1008, the wipers were super-slow, and the sprayer wouldn't spray. The windshield fluid in the tank was blue, but the truck had been sitting so long, the alcohol had evaporated. It was frozen solid.
Took the tank inside, emptied it.
Heated the hoses and nozzles on the truck with...
