I think I'm older than analog...... sort of like older than flashing light but not as old as smoke signals, but I do think I might be able to now 'figger' this one out. Guess we'll see....
Hey that "Hold my beer and watch this" sounds like the Sixth most dangerous thing in the Army..... The first five are: A Private saying" I learned this in Boot Camp", A Sergeant saying "Trust me Sir", A Second Lieutenant saying "Based upon my experience", a Captain saying "I was just...
Just watched a news story about a wild fire in the "out back" of Australia, and the helo doing the water drop was a Sky Crane. Neat to watch, don't think I'd like to be flying it, that's "rugged" duty....
Absolutely my favorite aircraft, second is the B-25, third the Skyraider. Never flew in any of them and wouldn't if offered a chance..... (never did like flying, first flight ever took me to Viet Nam on a C-141'that sucked' he flight, not the plane) As a diver, I learned first hand what...
I've not seen it mentioned here, but it seems like GL is ahead of us on this, I've read several places that they will not allow the vehicle to be driven off base, it has to be towed or hauled. They know what they are selling, (or at least the military knows) and has probably told them no...
Was happy to see you were not talking about the one in the tree in South Amherst, Ohio. THAT one is truely a shame, it sat long enough for a sizeable tree to grow up through it and lift it physically six feet off the ground. There are two CCKW dumper's rotting away close by also.
Our "Group" owns an M-220 van and we've been working on it since the holidays. It finally came to life and moved under its own power. Has new brake cyliners some lines and other stuff, is getting a new water pump and radiator. We're returning it to operation as a mobile office for the group...
Not the OD Green hobby Nick you know that. You should have called, we'd have come got the machine for you. That tow bar and the Deuce at Beamer's are always available for that type of recovery work. My 5 ton is off line right now, think I've got an injector pump problem or it could have made...
Its truely a shame the military doesn't have this lifting power any more. They're now looking to be rid of the "Jolly Green/SeaStallion" as well, seem to think the re-engineered "super S--thook" and the up engined H-60 can do the work. The last two deployments have proved this horribly wrong...
Definately a CJ5 body, the rest looks like what it takes to keep something moving and working for a reason. There was a lot of that type of thing going on 'in country', and the "spooks" with the CIA didn't help things much with their 'civilian' vehicles in country too. Things like early black...
THAT is what Christmas is all about, great idea, wish my yard was set up to do a display like that... One of my vehicles, an M-725 field ambulance is used each year for the last eight or so by the local Red Cross chapter in a "Festival of Lights" thing at a local resort in Huron, Ohio its lit...
How'd you find one in Michigan that wasn't rotted out with salt rust. I've recovered three from up there and they were only parts trucks. Matter of fact, I'm looking for a good condition bed for one now. Any up there???
The more I look at that picture, ( the white cab complete truck) the more I'm willing to bet its a CCW not a CCKW. Wish the weeds in front allowed us to see the front axle, I'd be willing to bet its an I-beam axle not a "banjo" for a CCKW. There are just too many similarities to my truck...
The winch looks like something off a utility truck, not off something maritime as the winch is wrong, its obviously not a ' jury riged' winch and capstan outfit, too nice looking, but didn't belong where it is now. Designed as one piece and made to run off a chain drive PTO rig. Really nice...
That is the early GMC cab on the red truck in the barn (why is it every one of those early things has a red cab and black fenders????? Must have been a good color combo for the farmers, mine was that way too, but mine is a 6x4 CCW) It's missing the window protector on the back of the cab, but...
