As Elwenil mentioned I doubt it's a 440. The industrial engines back then were either 361's or 413's. While the blocks are just like those used in the 361 or 413 car engines just about the rest of the engine is different. Heads, water pump, intake and exhaust manifolds, and cam are all...
While Virginia follows the Federal guidelines (i.e. no CDL needed if you are not for profit) the fun begins when you try to drive out of the state. Before the Air Force sent us back to Alaska I had a truck and trailer with Virginia tags along with a Virginia driver's license (we were at Langley...
I've been toying with the idea of a 413/440 in a bobbed M35 for a year now. I have a 361 with a NP540 5 speed trans from a Dodge C700. I also have a Dodge CT800 dump truck with a 413/Spicer 5652A combo. Was thinking of using a 440 block with the truck heads for a little more cubic inches. The...
The best bet is to call DMV and ask what is needed in a vehicle to have it reclassed as an RV. I'm in the process of having a 1974 semi truck reclassed as an RV up here in Alaska. When I called the local DMV I was told it would have to have at least 4 of the following items:
1.) Toilet
2.)...
The best thing to do would be to just point out the ability to burn WVO. Sell the environmental plus side to driving one of these trucks. Don't mention the used oil aspect.
As far as WVO being "non-taxed" from what I understand if you are burning WMO or WVO on public roads you are supposed to...
Sorry, haven't worked on it much over the last week so no progress has been made. About 10 days ago I received a rather unexpected phone call. A couple months back I called a gent that was parting out a couple of GMC semi trucks. One of them had a Detroit Diesel 6V53 with a "12 speed Roadranger"...
YES MASTER!
From here on out I promise that if I have any questions about anything I see for auction on GL I will not ask any questions about it and promise to remain ignorant.

I get them from a few places. There is a local hobby shop in the mall I work at that is the best I have ever seen. When they get new model kits in stock they put the month and year that it came in on the price sticker. If the kit is there for a year they mark it down 50 percent. Plus last week...
Doesn't the diff cover an a Dana 60 have 10 bolts too? If the Dana 60 was changed for a half ton GM 10 bolt wouldn't the rims have less then 8 lug nuts holding them on?
As mentioned already the NP208 is the normal transfer case. The NP205 was used but only in a couple models of CUCV's...
If you need the ability to handle a lot of weight in the bed how about bobbing a 5 ton instead of an M35? Or do you need 8 tires in the back to help spread the weight over grass and dirt?

I love what you have done so far. One thing I hope to do in the next few years is bob an M800 series 6x6 and drop in a 300 hp Cat 3176 10 liter engine (I have one in a rusty Ford L9000). Would do it now but I need to rebuild another truck I have first (a 1970 Dodge CT800 semi truck with a 413...
Finally started working an bobbing a 1/35th scale M35A1 plastic kit the other day. The first picture shows the rear axle and rim. To simulate the flange that the rear rim would bolt to after the hubs were flipped I cut the middle section out on a couple of the spare rims. The second image shows...
Don't worry about the naysayers J. It's your truck and if it will make life easier for you so be it. If I wasn't living in Alaska I would probably convert my M1009 to 12 volts too. My 24 volt starter died on me last month (it's too messed up to rebuild) and for 2 weeks I debated just going with...
Thanks for the link. I've been going through some of his other work and another one of his albums has a great collection of WWII Warbirds along with many shots of WWII tanks and soldiers.

If you love WWII Warbirds check out the Travis album...
There is an M105A2C trailer coming up on GL and I've never seen one with the "C" at the end of the model number. So while reading the TM for it I see that the "C" means it has a vacuum connection for the braking system. Why was vacuum used instead of air pressure? Also, what vehicle would have...
Welcome to the site. My wife was stationed at Langley AFB up till 2 years ago. Now we are in Alaska. While we were in the Hampton Roads area I came across a great club of military vehicle collectors. They have a web site at http://www.vmpa.us/. There should be a WWI re-enactment coming up next...
You're thinking of the M38A1. The M38 is the flat fendered one. The M38A1 is what became the CJ5.

Thanks Alex. I need to set my Dodge semi truck up with electric brakes and have been on the lookout for a controller like that.
