I got the front axel out and it is all disasembled. We finished the day cleaning parts and making a parts list. The yard is a mess with all the grease but we have it all torn down. We have a new axel for the drivers' side and I was putting the balls back in the cv joint and noticed a groove...
Both Boots were worn. The boot on the left side was torn and there was a lot of water in there. The inner seal on the left side is shot too. Inside the steering knuckle it was packed full of grease. Looks like more than a gallon of grease inside. way more than I think would be needed. We will...
The M816 went out for exercise the other day. Paul had trouble with the front wheel locking up. We went to recover it but it was impisible to flat tow because of the bad front wheel. We managed to get it off the road and the next day, it was towed into the motor pool.
After removing the...
oddshot
Not for nuthin Oddshot, We who live in Jersey don't get woozy from a little smoke, ever, we have a lot more dangerous stuff in the air here all the time. anybody passed out from a little diesel smoke on the turnpike around here is probably from someplace else and is made from weaker...
disable your deuce
Before I did all that work, I would just let them steal it. If they cut the lock, it gives them a nice chain to haul it away with and no drive shaft means les resistance to bing towed. How about just parking at your buddies house while you are away?
I flapped my gums so much, talking to so many friends that I haven't seen since Gilbert, that I had to rince with some Irish wislkey when I got home. Sure had a great time seeing everyone.
If you have worn out brakes on one axel, It is time to pull off all the wheels and pack all the berings and replace the seals and really check all the brake shoes and don't forget to inspect all the lines and especially the flex hoses for dry rot. I haven't had a five ton yet that didn't need a...
I've hauled a ten and twenty ton tag a long trailer with everything from a M114 to a deuce on them behind M54"s. Speed ranges from 40 to 50/54 loaded. The five tons haul the trailer just fine. They are a little rough trying to park in some squirrley places due to their length but far easier...
I think Bill Parks started a thread on the Carlise show comming up this spring. We attended two years ago and also had a Guntruck gathering there as well . The display at the the army Heritage museum was a great experience with renactors form every conflict from the Fench and Indian war...
If it has to be registered and insure in order to park it at your home, then just submit and do it. I live in a up scale town and I presently have three five tons acouple deuces a step van and a flat bed tow truck. only one is unregistered (but it is hidden pretty well) I have great neighbors...
The only yellow nosed trucks in VN were part of the Eigth Trans Group. all others were plain OD. The color 24087 is the proper color. The best for that in my opinion is Gilespe 24087. The stars as mentioned were 21" w/the point facing forward. That way it is always pointing up. the doors...
Well, sorry to beat a dead horse. My five ton runs 65+ but it also blew up and cost many shiny coin for the rebuild. They run fine around fifty miles per hour. I like to make them go as fast as I can make em go, but if you don't wand a bunch of deuce parts all over the road, then take it easy...
Even though a picture says a thousand words, nothing is more poetic than the written word. Patience my friend, the pictures will be posted as soon as there is something worthy of showing, meanwhile be secure in the ability to be able to read all about it.
I can add, never use a person named Bill Peasley for a ground guide. During one particular recovery Said Peasley was acting as ground guid as Veh # 1 was towing Veh#2 up a ramp onto a trailer. He was supposed to signal stop when the towed vehicle was completely on the trailer. He was not...
Bill we travel Interstate 80. That is no place to be sitting on yer hands. Jersey drivers do a lot of stuff with thier hands but sitting on them would keep them from talkiing. Besides, wondering about the brakes all the way home overrides any need to wave at anyone
Okay Larry, I think I will keep the OD trans. I'm just a little shell shock after dumping a couple grand into the rebuild (that really hurt) None of that will get done until we get back from the gathering. The new one is a sweet looking truck though. Mant the motorpools full right now. Wife is...
That is mighty good info. I sure have lot of trouble with stuff like that. Only problem is, I haven't had enough coffee yet to absorb it. I wll revisit it agaqin when I need to post my pics. Thank you.
