I agree with Floridianson. Holding down 4 batteries with just 1 rubber bungee could be asking for trouble. Personally, I would have each battery secured with a battery hold down and rods. Yes, the maintenance time is greatly increased when servicing, but peace of mind making sure they don't...
You just have to love that suspension articulation. But if he would put all 4 wheels on that side slope, he just might put the wheels ( and the gun) pointing skyward.
Greetings from Canada. Back in the mid '80's we replaced a damaged gasser engine out of one of our old 5 ton wreckers. The rebuilt engine was from Contenental and the tags said everything was new. Once installed, it ran good, but not like it was supposed to. We tried everything to make it run...
Hi there 1976Chevy. I may still have the wiring diagram in an old manual somewhere downstairs. Give me a few days to locate it. I drove one of those 5/4 ton Chevy's for almost 7 years. My truck was the unit's mobile repair truck.
Has the heater core ever been flushed out? Up here in Canada, we would disconnect the supply and return lines and reverse flush them until the water runs clean. My 2 cents.
I agree with MidnightDuramax. Quite often, up here in Canada, the S cam bushings and rollers will sieze up because of corrosion from salt used on the roads. It might be time to pull the drums and service your brakes.
Having just the engine sitting on a frame doesn't mean it has good grounding. Don't forget the engine and tranny are sitting on rubber isolators ( mounts ), thus they have to have a ground running to the chassis. I have seen some very weird instances when grounds go bad. Once I had a truck with...
Hi Klunk. Welcome to the forum. I am thinking of diving into the big green steel hobby. I was a mechanic in the Reserves for 27 years and got out back in 2011. I am now looking for a vehicle to restore. It will probably be an Iltis or a M38 ( start small as not to scare the wife). Would love to...
Hi cmpman. You have a great looking collection of green iron!!:D I am thinking of diving in head first and starting a collection myself. I would start small with an Iltis or like your M37 Jeep, but I would love to have a MLVW. I worked on them for 26 years in the reserves so I would have no...
Hi Guys. Up here in Canada, our MLVW's ( 2 1/2 tons) ran with Detroit diesel 8.2 litre fuel pincher engines and an Allison MT643 automatic transmission. Now I know that our engines were not multifuelers but earlier in this thread you were talking about different styles of bellhousings for...
Hi ther John. Welcome to the forum. There are some very knowledgeable people here on the site so if you have any questions, they probably have the answers. If they don't, they will send you in the right direction to the right people.
Cheers from Quebec!
John
Wow. What a story! At least they are both home. As for your moving under power, there is ( at least with our Canadian ones ) an artic clutch/emergency 2nd gear selector in the fighting compartment area on the right hand side below the turret ring. There is a seal that will need to be removed to...
Let me guess, the train horn is for the Honda's that cut you off making a right hand turn into the shopping mall. Is that a winch off of the back deck of a 5 ton wrecker? Nasty looking!
Looks alot like a Leopard 1 A2. Is that a searchlight above the barrel or the simulator for simulating main weapon fire and bang. I have worked them up here in Montreal, mostly power train, engine, transmissions, and final drives. Hope you have a good overhead crane. The power pack alone is 5...
