What kind of clicking noise? Is it a single contact being thrown once like the starter solenoid, or is it the rhythmic tic-tic-tic-tic type you get when your battery is low or the cable is loose or corroded?
I would clean and tighten the battery cables first. The next thing I would do if the...
My M1009 has a cable that runs to the starter downward- where you find the fuel pump on a gas V8, there is a metal strap that attaches the cable and another one as well, to the chassis with a bolt. It does not "need" to be connected there; I think it is just cable management to keep it from...
Plowboy, check out this recent post: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/64967-how-does-spare-tire-mount-back-m1009.html
A few ideas, on hardware. If you cruise the chevys at the boneyard, you ought to get what you need in short order.
Check out my recently resolved thread. My starter, a newly installed Gear Reduction model, would click at the relay and the solenoid. I could hear a loud click like the solenoid was kicking the Bendix out; but no spin-up of the starter. I checked all my wiring except for the ground where the...
I always wanted to add something here...
Just finished replacing the starter. A new Gear Reduction for a direct drive- the label and number stated that the DD was a 12volt.
I also made the upgrade to a starter relay of the doghead variety. I am happy to get my Blazer back on the road.
Just changed out my direct drive starter for a gear reduction starter. Did mine in a rain-soaked gravel driveway. I followed the advice I found here and jacked the body up. A hi-lift under the brush guard and some jackstands. 3-6 pumps and I was able to remove the nuts from the support bracket...
All better now- Needed to add an extra ground is all.
After more than a week messing around with this starter, I finally have it back in and running :jumpin:.
I ran it over to a starter shop- told the fellow what was happening. He attaches the battery cable and shorts the terminals-...
Problem resolved!
After more than a week messing around with this starter, I finally have it back in and running :jumpin:.
I ran it over to a starter shop- told the fellow what was happening. He attaches the battery cable and shorts the terminals- whiirrrrr!.
I scratched my head and the guy...
I pulled my starter- the new Gear reduction 24 volt I bought 2 weeks ago to replace my bad Direct Drive model. After installing it, I find that it clicks; but does not seem to spin. I tested all wiring and finally pulled the starter out. I clamped it in my vice and gave it 24volts at the battery...
I used a 10 gauge jumper to jump from the purple lead on the starter solenoid to a remote starter in the cab- the other rem. lead went to the big red lead I disconnected from the starter relay. I heard a solenoid click but no crank still.
I then removed the purple lead from the starter and...
Jumper wire first instead of cutting... duh. Thanks, you saved me a bunch of splicing partner. I gotta track down some 10g wire and get on it. Man these electrical gremlin problems are the worst... Next to bottom end engine work.
So it just occurred to me that the starter is easily tested by...
OK I will go check the other fusible links, How can you tell if they are cooked?
The purple wire I was referring to is the solid one, not the one with the white stripe.. I have not found where it comes through the fire wall.
I think what I need to do before pulling the starter is to...
More testing done. It looks like I have a ground in the SOLID purple relay wire at the relay end(unconnected). I followed this wire from the Starter solenoid through the loom tube and up to the firewall opposite the FUSE BLOCK. On the other side of the firewall I am looking at the fuse block...
Chevymike: CUCV Starter Military Equipment M1008 6.2L GM Diesel - eBay (item 280620915582 end time Feb-24-11 09:49:14 PST)
Its a 24VOLT starter.
Warthog: Thanks, on my way to check the fusible link.
In trying to isolate the problem, I removed the large PURPLE and RED wires only at the Starter...
All of my mounting hardware was gone so I went to "the yard" and scrounged up: Long "wing" bolt with nut, triangular flange, large circular flange from various GM products. I'll gram a pic.
For now it works; but it is not ideal as the wing bolt is way too long and not completely threaded. When...
Bushings cracked, Damper (shock) in place. Some rubber tubing to change and some leaking fluids to trace back- one looks like the power steering pump pressure hose. Any other thing "down here" I should look closely at and replace before it goes?
I am still looking for suggestions on my NO...
I am wondering still about the starter. Is it possible I could have fried it somehow? Still trying to figure out what fuse or Fusible links might have made the burning insulation smell.
Anyone have this NO START situation before:
Batteries fully charged
connections verified
everything...
