    Pulling 250 Motor

Cummins would be the place to contact, I've seen the piston/liner kits advertized on the web, mil surplus, I think someone on SS had them also. Drop the oil pan and pull the head. The kit comes with a piston assembly, wrist pin and liner/seals.

    valve adjustment on CAT 3116

Meyer MRC Carpenter Diesel Engine Service Tool Kit - Caterpillar 3116,3126,3114. Google their web site, they have a instruction video. The tool kits are out there but expensive. The manual can be downloaded to a PDF. It's more than just valve adjustment. It is for fuel timing and injector rack...

Answer to the age old question-m35a2

Nice ol' truck, even has a winch. As for the batteries, they are right on the edge of survival age, top them off with distilled water and let them soak (charge slow). They will probably show good voltage with a meter, however they need to be loaded tested w/ a load meter. Autozone will load test...

Won't fire in neutral position on the shifter (M-939 Series 5-Ton)

The multiple clicking when the battery switch (not start switch) is turned on is the ABS system running a self test.

M936A2 - Indianapolis, IN to Stokesdale, NC

Hey, that's my wrecker... Yep MDMORGAN recovered that for me. Heck of a job. Truck made it to KY in one piece. New batteries and some fluids and it runs like a top. Wood cribbing instead of the concrete blocks would have been the way to go.

    New 5-ton ... questions

Yep, that's my Buff in the corner. Tanzania 2005, got malaria on that trip and had to be medivaced out to Nairobi, then back to Baylor Grapevine ICU. He and another are the sentries that guard the entry to the house. One on each side. He's not the widest Buffalo I have killed, but he's my...

    New 5-ton ... questions

Wendell, Take your time with your new truck, put the fuel back in the tank before it gets contaminated, add a little Power Service Diesel Kleen w/ every fill up. These trucks have a lot of old smells. (the tarp smells, the seat covers smell, the CARC smells, the dead mouse under the battery box...

Soon to be a First time owner of an M35A3

A3s are neat and easy to drive. As stated, tires are the biggest liability. Hopefully the truck has been kept road worthy. They are relatively slow for todays highways, maybe plan secondary high ways routes.

Two good 1175 cca batteries will spin that right up. Make sure to charge them up. connect in series. As for speeding, an M54 going downhill w/ no brakes? You'll be speeding.......

    M54 ?

How far of a recovery? Does it start? Couple good batteries, Fresh fuel to start with, 15w40 oil to bring up to the "full" mark, Dot 5 for the master cylinder, good set of tools, get it running and test stop a couple times, turn on the lights and drive home, no speeding. Take pictures. JC

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

Nice truck, plus all the BII. Now find the operators manual (TM) and keep it in the truck. Read it, and read it again when you go to operate it. That truck is the Swiss Army knife of trucks, however it can hurt you very quickly. Be safe, JC

-the NHC 250 was designed to be maintained/repaired in frame. Liner kits and piston (if needed) are available.

    Puffing white from the breather

If you find coolant in the oil after it is parked, most likely a cracked liner is the issue. Drop the oil pan, it will be evident which cylinder needs the attention.

What kind of life can you get out of a 923 with a NHC250?

-there is no replacement for displacement, 855 cubic inches will pull the world over.

What kind of life can you get out of a 923 with a NHC250?

I have five trucks powered w/ the NHC 250. All stock configured, all will pull a house off the foundation. Very simple and reliable diesel power plant. Keep them serviced/maintained and operated within their envelope and they will out last you. Your grand kids will be playing w/ them.
