    MEP 802A What happened here?

Or hook up the wires to the terminal board incorrectly. I had that wire burned up in a generator that I bought. Hot tip: it is not listed in the TM. @Guyfang put me on to it here; https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/new-to-me-mep-803a-with-a-charred-ground.215947/post-2526448 10ga TGGT wire...

Bought another non-running 802a, begins to start, then falls off (Now an excessive vibration fix up thread) (SOLVED)

I agree a softer isolator set with increased sway is going to be hard on a number of things. That is not to say that the current set is the right stiffness. I've been down that path with a number of pieces of custom equipment, and I think that it is often like the old story of pulling on a...

Bought another non-running 802a, begins to start, then falls off (Now an excessive vibration fix up thread) (SOLVED)

I agree 100%. It does seem like an unusual design / specification choice, but one made repeatedly. So I'm probably missing some important design consideration. Three points alone define a plane; four takes alignment. Losing one of four mounts leaves the load well out of vibrational balance due...

Bought another non-running 802a, begins to start, then falls off (Now an excessive vibration fix up thread) (SOLVED)

I really liked your video and the analysis of your vibration issue. I found it very informative. I do not know that I would have thought of a height difference in the mounts being an underlying cause of a vibration issue, but now that you have pointed it out, "Duh!", I can see how a lack of...

    Mep803a white braided wire

I'm glad it helped. Most of the ends take high temperature crimp connectors, but if you use the MIL-Spec parts, they will be fine. If you can get most or all of them as a wire harness, that sounds like a win to me. Allthe best, 2Pbfeet

    Mep803a white braided wire

@hdsadey The white wire with braid is almost certainly TGGT (Teflon-Glass-Glass-Teflon, occasionally as TFFT Teflon-Fiberglass-Fiberglass-Teflon) wire, with a special insulation and temperature (450C/840F) and amperage rating. The higher amperage ratings follow from the high temperature...

    MEP-802A battery

Or just slide some heat shrink or vinyl tubing on the uncoated ones? Isn't the goal mostly about reducing accidental contact? I've seen ones made out of fiberglass angle pieces, but those have to be $$$... All the best, 2Pbfeet

    MEP-002A Saved the Day

I'm glad to see that fire threat is down somewhat for you. I guess my take on the generators and fire preparedness is that it is just the table stakes for living where I live. Personally, I prefer tornados (some warning) to fires (not much warning, at least around here), to earthquakes (no...

How to wire a power panel right to my mep 803a generator

For rocky areas, the MK-2551A/U might be easier to install, but it is not as simple as a ground rod, though purportedly a better signal ground. I can recommend the army grounding manual, if you are interested. CECOM TR-98-6 "Earth Grounding and Bonding Pamphlet"...

That looks like a great score! Good luck on the fittings. All the best, 2Pbfeet

    Mep-003a reactor

Yes, it is usually a (bigish) coil or three for three phase, like a transformer. Because the AC going through it needs to vary, as it is an alternating current, the reactor is chosen to have a value that makes it essentially no barrier to 60Hz, but a barrier to higher frequencies (harmonics), or...

    MEP-002A Saved the Day

If you find a nice diesel pump that you like, I would be interested in learning about what you find. And a deep thank you to all who serve. All the best, 2Pbfeet

    Mep-003a reactor

I don't know about the MEP-003, but line reactors are used to help reduce harmonics to improve power quality, and also reduce the magnitude of short circuits, by increasing the impedance, e.g. https://trimantec.com/blogs/t/why-use-line-reactor (discussed in the context of VFDs, where they are...

    MEP-002A Saved the Day

Your aunt does seem like a a pro, and the blanket method seems amusingly practical. I have a vivid memory of the first time I saw a grass fire on a slope across the valley. It went up 200' or so of slope in less than ten seconds, and in that time completely cured me of any ideas that I had had...

    MEP-002A Saved the Day

@Tinstar Good luck! The news photos out of your area looked to me like desolate images of devastation. In my book, 70mph+ wind driven flames are not exactly in the "easy to fight" category, as the recent fires out here have also shown. Over the years, we have been steadily enlarging and...

    Picture request - Two 802a s on a Schutt LTT-HC trailer

I don't know what the MXXX is, or even if it exists. Silver Eagle made a number of them, which I've seen under dual MEP-803As (NSN 6115-01-588-8423), and also as a support trailer for a 15kW "power pack for unmanned aerial systems", A1-43315D, NSN 2330013875424. All the best, 2Pbfeet

    genset loadbanks

Great price! Personally, having looked inside a few of them, I think that these heaters are all made by the same global manufacturer. YMMV. I have one of the 10kW ones. Inside, the circuit boards appeared to be designed for absolute lowest cost, and were all set up for and ready for 3 phase...

MEP 803A Surging, Not holding frequency

And if you go too far the other way, the generator doesn't respond well to changes in load, so there is a sweet spot in middle. As @Ray70 wrote it is about 3Hz or so of droop. All the best, 2Pbfeet

Not quite a generator, but my 803 is part of it soon...

Sounds like a great design! I like the DC charging and integrated BMS to track the SoC. That seems like a robust design to me. All the best, 2Pbfeet
