Maybe a little off topic, but these buckles are truly brutal. I'm not sure what they were thinking putting plastic buckles on these trucks. All of mine have needed to be replaced at some point due to the hook snapping off or broken strap retainer springs. Has anyone out there found a good...
The S3 is definitely very nice to have. However, they do have their problems (other than cost). They're fragile and prone to failure by a variety of sources, the most common being unsuspecting owners blowing the circuits by not disconnecting the batteries prior to manipulating the cannon...
Dude, these trucks are maintenance pigs and will keep you busy. You can spend hours merely troubleshooting gremlins. Unless you're planning on taking out a second mortgage on your home to pay for someone else's labour I'd suggest getting intimate with the TM's and the inner workings of the...
The way I see it, some fancy engineers making six-digits a year designed this stuff to work a certain way and I'm sure there's thousands of Marines out there who can corroborate that it does. Otherwise, there'd be lots of pics all over the net of swamped Humvees on the landing beaches...
These are old machines and there's crud buildup throughout the entire cooling system, including the heater core. As well, pull the rad stack apart and clean away all of the sticks and leaves that get trapped in there. I used a cooling system cleaner/conditioner from a local auto parts store...
My RH rear brakes were rubbing and heated to the point where it melted the vent tube crossing above it to the diff. Does anyone have a source for vent line on the market? Kascar sells it but it's not cheap, but I figure there's probably a compatible aftermarket somewhere out there we can use...
Don't forget the buckets of prop wash, sky hooks, and checking the carrier's road wheel tire pressures. lol By the way, the new spools of flight line should only be the high-vis yellow type. If they come back with white it's the older winter stuff we don't use any more, so send them back...
I had the same issue, except mine was not going into the low gears. Turns out they had been reduced to the sludge in the bottom of my pan and the tranny had to be rebuilt. On a good note, the T400 is old school and the rebuild shop loved the opportunity to play with it. Relatively inexpensive...
The starter won't just drop straight down. It needs to rotate on its own axis to clear the frame rail. If you don't have the newer hook-shaped bracket installed for the front support I would highly recommend doing the swap. It'll save you lots of grief. The thing weighs close to 50 lbs and...
I've replaced the boots on a couple instead of buying whole new halfshafts. Cost effectiveness aside, it's a bit of a pain dismantling and reassembling, but the process is pretty well laid out in the TM. If you're at all mechanically proficient and have the time to spare, go for it.
I'll add a story which happened with one of my friend's restored MB's, for those of you who like to attend static displays and shows. He noticed some clown sitting in the driver's seat of his WW2 jeep completely ignoring the 'please do not touch' sign placed on the hood. When he approached the...
