Kendelrio:
I would love to know officially whether it should be inspected or not, too. I had mine inspected, it passed, so I dunno, but I sure wouldn't complain if I didn't have to get it inspected every year...................

I still cry every time I see pics of that truck, it is just so awesome. If I ever win the lottery I'm buying one like that and touring the US with it.
Won't have to worry about fuel cost if I win the lottery!

KE5KMR here.
Got my ticket after Hurricane Katrina. The only communications that worked after the storm (I was working at a hospital 60 miles north of New Orleans at the time) were HAM's.
We had all kinds of communications at the hospital: HEAR radios, cell phones, sat phones, internet, and...
For the last couple of years, I have had to enter through the truck entrance which is at the North Gate, off of LA Hwy. 28. I don't think that has changed. When I originally started going 3-4 years ago, it was the Main (or west) Gate, but it is now the North Gate.

Jim:
Do you mean the Main Gate? For the last couple years I've been using the North Fort entrance (the same that all trucks are required to use).
Seems like I went to the west entrance way back then and was told that anyone going to DRMO at Polk had to use the North Gate.
Now I'm wondering...
Oklahoma City to LA? Anyone going soon?
Is anyone going from OK City to LA within the next 2-4 weeks? I have a small lot needing pickup, willing to help with your expenses. I am expecting my EUC to clear within the next couple weeks at most, if everything goes as well as the last one did...
LOL, mine is at 10:00am Wednesday morning. Hope I don't have any problems on the way, this is going to be the longest trip I've taken so far in the Deuce.
Doing some PM on it today and tomorrow to make sure!

Got one tree pulled out today, it was an old pine that was damaged by high winds back in February. Just wanted to use it for a test. Tomorrow the chicken tree comes out.
Tied the winch to the pine tree and put some pressure by pulling on it. Once I got the tree cut deep enough, we just...
USAFCajun:
What parish are you in? I'm in Evangeline but have a whole bunch of relatives in St. Landry Parish (Krotz Springs). Looks like they are going to soon open the Morganza Spillway to relieve pressure on the Mississippi River and Baton Rouge. I've offered to help them if they need it...
Oh definitely. The tree is only about 40 feet, I have plenty of cable and yard to stand off at a distance.
I just want to put a little pressure on the tree with the winch so that the tree falls in the right place.
LC
Do you guys ever just tie off the Deuce to a tree and use it to make the tree fall the direction you want?
Out here in South Louisiana we have Chinese Tallow trees (we call em chicken trees because chickens will roost in them). They are ugly and grow like weeds.
I just want to make sure this...
Really sorry I missed this one, things just got in the way this year. If nothing else happens, I'll be there next year, my brother may come with me, he's been trying to find a good M109 to purchase.

This is what I do now that I am more familiar with my truck. First just seems unnecessary. I have not noticed anything that would make me think it is putting strain on the transmission.
Out here it is very flat land, and I have not yet had the opportunity to load the Deuce with anything...
Well, got everything put back together today, put oil in the winch, no leaks. Spooled up the cable on the drum, and it looks pretty good. Not as good as some of the ones I've seen here, but not bad for only my second time spooling it.
Gonna be dragging some stumps tomorrow with it, so...
Well, it looks like a GL-5 with MT-1 classification will do, if the link below is right.

Mine is on Progressive also, it's a commercial policy for liability and Medical Expenses.
My agent knows exactly what I have, I had to send pictures to them and explain what I was using it for.
It's around $700 per year here, but insurance is always higher in Louisiana.

This is one of the reasons I worry about my truck at night, even way out here in the middle of nowhere. As soon as I can, I am going to put up a building to put Big Green in.
As it stands now, the truck stays locked up in my backyard, but I still worry.
I hope they catch the morons who did...
