I tried to interest Bruce in it, too far away for him. Whoever gets it, I hope they restore it. They are scarce in this condition! Hell, they're scarce in any condition!
I got lucky and got one without a hole in the block. That said, I have not run it. There was a piece of paper on the can that said the engine was running when pulled from a wrecked truck. The pan is damaged where the front axle forward pinion flange spun against it, leading me to believe it was...
That one definately needs a true restoration. They are scarce as hens teeth! I would hate to see someone chop it up for the axles! I have only seen one up close, and it had been used to death by an electrical co-op and junked years ago.
Bruce Kubu! Where are you?
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: How they/you do dat?
I would like a tire that is the same height as an 1100, but would run on a 10" rim. My truck is fast enough as it is, I just want the look of wider tires (mine is singled)
15.5's would be OK off road only. You can get away with most anything as long as you go slow. I would not try them on the highway on stock rims.
I need to find a couple of 15.5's w/ tubes and flaps myself.......I am getting ready to weld up some 10" deuce wheels soon.
Heck of a load for Blazer axles. I wouldn't hit any bumps very hard! Tires and wheels might be just a tad overstressed......
Deuce without axles probably weighs at least 10,000 pounds
They don't look like they were submerged from the photos, but that is just my opinion. I wish I could get down there to see them, these might be bargain trucks! Of course, GL will probably pull them the last 2 hours if they are not bringing much.
Does it happen when you back off the fuel when backing up? Or does it pop out when under load? You may be able to change the reverse slide gear and correct the problem.
Mutt mechanical parts are plentiful and cheap, since so many of the bodies were chopped up. If you can find a good body, you can buy all the running gear for about 2500 USD.
Although it is often viewed as heresy, some of the Japanese medium truck diesels are tough little engines. I have never looked at how hard they would be to swap, because I am happy with my multi fuel. You couldn't afford to feed a gas V-8 in a deuce, not for road trips. Now for mud bogging...
Six cylinder inlines are what fit a deuce well. The small six Cummins is popular, and I would imagine there are others that would fit as well. A 4-71 Detroit would be a fun swap. The 300 CID Ford gas straight six is supposed to make a good motor for a deuce. I used to drive dump trucks with the...
You might have tight clearances by the steering column, although you could just set the motor farther forward. I see no issues with the 700R4 tranny, but I would use the stock deuce t-case to keep the driveshaft angles stock. Can't see any real advantage to changing the t-case out. All you...
