mutifuel and ethanol think it will work

Have to agree with Patracy. Ethanol in a diesel is a pathway for water, and it will wreck ALL your rubber seals and hoses along the way. I was a small engine technician for 2 years. Best thing that ever happened to that business was ethanol in the fuel. It destroys the diaphrams in small carbs...

    Will not run

The electric pumps are easier to work with. But I kept my mechanical pump because I feel it would be more reliable. Eventually I want to get the best of both worlds and do both. Mechanical pump for driving - switchable electric pump for when the mechanical fails or for priming filters.

    Drivetrain noise

Mine does that for a few miles after I use 4x4 in snow for a while. It gradually goes away on mine. I figured it had to do with the chain moving slightly under load and putting more stress on one of the bearings, causing more noise. If it's full of clean fluid and quiet, I wouldn't worry about...

    heavy duty tow bar

Dumb question from someone who's never used this type of tow bar: Do you still have someone sit in the towed vehicle and steer (like when I've towed vehicles short distances with towing straps) when using this type of tow bar, or does the vehicle in tow behave as if it were a trailer and follow...

    Tires for M1009

BFG TA/KO's. I have 33X10.5's but they are available in 31's. I love em.

    4l60e into a cucv

4l60e is more-or-less an electrically controlled 700r4. GM. 4 speed. Overdrive. It's not a straight swap. That tranny is longer than your current th400 (you'll have to move EVERYTHING). And it needs a computer. Which could get complicated. I'd say a 700r4 would be much easier to use because you...

how to check hydroboost.. goes right to the floor

Sounds like you got a new bad MC. Try capping off the break line ports with the plastic plugs it came with. If you can't push it then - you've got break trouble. If not, your new master is no good. Pretty sure there is mechanical link straight through the hydro-boost. So if it's shot it just...

    Where to put Speakers

I have two large bookshelf speakers on the floor behind the front seats infront of the wheel wells. One is bailing-wired to the rifle rack, the other to the radio mount. Sounds great. I will install wood paneling down the sides in the back and put speakers behind it with nice grills one day...

has anyone ever seen a diesel converted to propane?

Very interesting. Anyone know if propane goes bad in storage? I would think it should last almost forever. This thread could be very useful info in an emergency situation where road fuels are hard to get (hurricane, apocalypse :P, etc.). Or even for extending the run time of diesel gensets with...

Convert CUCV to 12v pro vs. cons?

IMHO don't convert. 24 volt starter is wayy better than 12 volts.

    Glow plug testing questions

Power them up using booster cables to a battery for a few seconds and see if they get hot/glow. One clamp around the threads and hex head (not touching the tip) and the other clap on the metal tab. I've got some anomalous readings using the multimeter (plugs giving ok resistance but quickly...

    Any Wiring Tips

If you do decide to do some wiring yourself, I would recommend you solder absolutely every connection you can, rather than using crimp splices or wire nuts. Soldered connections are relatively impervious to corrosion, and it is corrosion and loose connections that lead to most electrical...

    Block Heater

You can buy wattage meters that you plug things into and they tell you on a digital readout how much juice the load is using. I got one by "blue planet" for $20 to check how much power a computer installation was using. If you get one - make sure to get one that can handle a full 15 amp load, so...

    Block Heater

My "in-block" block heaters are made by zerostart too. Decent stuff from them. I'm sure the circulating heaters are designed for -40*, I'm sure they work, and I'd bet where you live you made the right decision. I didn't mean to say "YOU'RE WRONG" or undermine your opinion. I'm sorry if I came...

Truck shutting off after driving/ return valve?

Find a way to get +12 volts to the fuel solenoid and your electric fuel pump without using any of the vehicles wiring (connect DIRECTLY to the front battery). Make SURE the front battery is grounded properly. Make sure that when you run your electric fuel pump, the IP fills with fuel (take the...

Little Bit of Smoke in the Morning, is it Normal??

At -40* ambient temp, my M1009, after 15 minutes of idling (heat blowing warm), throws out enough white smoke (slightly bluer than gasser smoke - which looks almost grey next to her, If I sound nuts park a good running gasser and diesel side-by-side out in the cold - you'll see what I mean) to...

    Block Heater

Not too hard. This is how I did it, twice (in my defense I am not an "expert" and I believe the "proper" way to do it is a drilling a hole in the frost plug, threading a special puller into the hole and tightening down till it pops out. If you're like me and have no idea where to get such a...

    optima batteries

Optima's used to be better but now they're overpriced for what you get IMHO. My CUCV came with a pair of 1100 CCA "Quickstart" batteries. They're conventional lead-acid, 3 years old now still work fine. Have never been fully drained - that kills "starting" batteries. At work we carried...

New M1031 owner with a NP205 Transfer Case Rebuilt question

PTO would be great for generator/welder, air compressor, hydraulic pump (as stated above), giant emergency water pump.. What can't you do with a PTO? If my '09 had a 205 and PTO I'm sure I'd find a use for it. I wouldn't twin stick either. I can only see the benefit for a very serious off road rig.

Cheap and Easy Winter Grill Cover for my CUCV

I use perforated plastic and zip ties.. Essentially "plastic cardboard" so that I can wash it without it turning to mush. Cost like $6 for 24"X48". Got it in black and cut it to fit grill - looks ok. OP's pipe insulation looks cool.
