I put gauges where my Gen1 and Gen2 indicator lights were. I relocated the charging indicators. I don't need a 2" diameter idiot light.. A 1/2" one works fine. I left the 4X4 and Oil pressure lights, since the oil pressure light is good for idiots (if i borrow my truck to my friends) and the 4X4...
I've got wellman's in my truck now. I didn't ask around, I just bought the gp's I figured the truck would've had in the military. They've been in there for a year and a half without a problem. It had wellman's before these ones too. Due to electrical problems - they all fried. None of them...
I'll second that the stupid vacuum switch is the cause of TONS of air in fuel problems.. But I would still say a spin-on filter is much better then the original gm box unit. If the gm filter is still in it's packaging, you might want to consider looking for a spin on. I'm not doubting you here...
I like your tire choice. I have BFG TA/KO 10.5 x 33's on my M1009. They're nice. Sorry I can't really answer your shocks question.. Pretty sure my shocks are shot :P.
DO NOT connect two the 2 bus bars - as stated by Recovry, that would be 24V. I would not recommend the little 2 post "engine harness plug" on the firewall. I would run a wire right to the front battery positive. Use a fuse. I have run all sorts of stuff in my truck that way. Good luck.
Hahaha.. :) the drivethrough comment got me. That is SO true. My personal favorite use for the racket my truck makes:
You know when you've got kids at a red light, or in a parking lot or something.. In those little asian cars? and then they start revving their lawnmower-sized engines at each...
I'm with Westech on this one, my $8 fram air filter every year makes me very happy. I did quite a serious look into K&N filters a year ago - seems more of a sales pitch than hard science to me. Paper air filters are my favorite for a daily driver, they actually catch more junk than the oiled...
Hey JCKnife,
Sorry I took so long to respond. I had said that my 300 watt inverter "killed" my large deep cycle battery (I think the reserve capacity on that bad boy is like 150 minutes at 25 amps.. but don't quote me on that) in about an hour, I meant that it drained the battery to the point...
^ I agree, the smaller pulley won't hurt anything. Alternators are voltage regulated and put out the amount of power that the electrical system asks of them, regaurdless of engine RPM (within reason.. at 100 rpm it won't give you much juice.) My truck has to be revved a bit to get the alt lights...
Here is my thread on this:

I would highly recommend Freeze Plug heaters. They are by far the best in my experience. Good luck no matter what you do.
I agree - the heat out of my M1009 has to be turned down or it becomes a sauna. It just took an awful long time (half hour) to get that hot before the new nipples and thermostat.
The nipple that screws into the crossover on my M1009 had a 3/8" or smaller diameter hole in the middle for coolant to flow. Same with the nipples between the crossover and the water pump (the tiny 4" long radiator bypass hose). I replaced these three nipples with nice brass ones that have 1/2"...
I run a timer also. Mine kicks in 3 hours before I leave. Earlier if it's really cold. It costs me roughly $0.08/hour to run my double heater set up. I bet I save at least $1 on fuel every day by starting with a warmer engine that doesn't have as much unburnt fuel going out the exhaust when...
"a loss of engine power does not mean you have a loss of pumping power unless you take it out of gear" - good point. I was thinking about things that don't move fast enough for that to matter. You're right. FYI, I was being supportive of the full hydro idea, not putting it down.
"and modern...
If it were my project - I'd go full hydro. But if I were gonna go that far, I'd go independant suspension, or 4-link - instead of solid front axle on leafs. That's just me though, no disrespect to your ideas. I would also not do it to a motorhome, but you've been ragged on enough for that and...
Up here in Canada the fuel companies put in anti-gel at the pumps when it gets cold outside. I imagine they would where you are too, if it gets cold enough to warrant it. My setup on my M1009 has no heater either, and it's never had a problem all the way down to -40*. I don't put in anything but...
Modifying 120volt LED lights to run on 24volts is possible, but more complex. You need to do some math and find a proper resistor. I can help you and do the math for you if you like. Consider it an early Christmas present :) plus, I love to see happy kids at parades :). PM me with what you have...
