I say it depends on the condition of the truck. If it checks out somewhat safe (brakes, steering, fuel lines and filters) then you can drive it home. However, if you do your pre-trip and find issues I would arrange a tow.

Replace the CDR valve they are cheap. Sounds like blow by to me.
If that doesn't resolve it then you better keep a good eye on your oil level, because oil is getting into the combustion half of the motor.
I have driven both on long trips, the A3 is comfortable but drives like a bus. The A2 is
more responsive, I have an air ride seat which makes all the differance. Also, off road climbing a hill there is no comparison. The A2 will climb all day the A3 doesn't come close.
