    deuce 2nd fuel tank

Have been thinking about taking the spare tire/mount off and fitting a 2nd fuel tank. I am not looking into running WVO or other stuff that needs 2 supplies. This being said, I think that I will just plumb the 2nd tank into the first tank and let the original tank supply for engine. Other...

    Stuck Budd Nut

Pulled off the front tandems, all went well until I pulled off the last inner wheel. Seems the outter lug nut is jammed tight on the Budd stud... Any ideas, other than a gas axe? I have about a 1/4" of play. PB Blaster used, pipe wrenches too...

    Deuce U-Joints

Been looking around the site for the correct U-Joints and wound up more bewildered than I started. The following was true to my 71 AM General. The Precision 332 was used for the intermediate shaft between the tranny and transfer case. It was purchased at a HI/LO O'Reilleys auto parts store...

    Deuce frame ID for Newbies

Have noticed several posts asking how to find the frame number on the Deuce. I had my camera out this morning and decided to take these pics. The blue tape shows where the frame number is on a 1971 AM General. The location is on the drivers side. One is a closeup and the other is an overall shot...

    Deuce PTO Update

Posted a tread on bits and pieces found in my tranny a while ago. Finally got warm and decided to get into the PTO on my deuce. The following pics are of the PTO. It turns and spins freely, no grinding, weird sounds, etc. I turned and felt the drive in the tranny and found only 1 gear that...

    U-Joint Wrench

Anyone know where to acquire a real thinwalled 3/4" combination wrench to use when removing the nuts off the U-Joints. I have been using a flare/tubing wrench and it really isnt getting it... The only place I have not chased down is the high dollar vans running to the mechanic shops. Is that the...

    Lug Nuts and such

Just a general, 'please check your rig' thingy...Sorry, no pics! I was pulling the tires off the rear axle on the deuce for a general inspection along with repacking the bearings and seals and liked to have had a cow! I found 3 of 6 lugnuts loose on BOTH axles, not a good thing! And by loose...

    No Start, Wiring?

Have a M1008 that wont start, or should i say turn over... Went offshore about 3 months ago and upon my return I tried to start the cucv and she just rolled over once and started clicking. I charged both batts overnight and upon reconnection, the terminal arced when I got it close to the...

    Power Bleeding Deuce Brakes

I have read over the TMs regarding bleeding the brakes on a deuce using a power bleeder. The TM suggests using 20-30PSI to do this. I have read several threads on brake bleeding and they suggest using no more than 10PSI. Kinda curious, which is correct? Or, does it matter?

    Transmission plug magnet?

While doing the lube change on the tranny and transfer on my deuce, I noticed that neither plug had a magnet in the plug to catch 'foreign material'. Did any of the Deuces have these magnets or is it something someone needs to add themselves?

PTO gear bits found in tranny?

I was changing the tranny oil in the deuce yesterday and had the inclination to run a magnet along the bottom of the case. The inclination came about by the PTO not engaging and the winch cable was jammed up tight. It looks like someone ran the PTO until something broke. The truck shifts ok and...

    crimped aluminum wire numbers

Does anyone know where to get the crimped aluminum wire numbers? While chasing out the wires to replace the lights, I found some of the stamped numbers all but impossible to read. I have several parking light leads that need replacing (frayed) and would like to update the tags at the same...

    Colour Guess

Is there anyone out there that would hazard a guess as to the colour of the truck? I would like to order a can or two from Rapco for touch up. Input would be appreciated!

    Rebuild a 400

There is a possibility of my M1008 needing a freshening up as the fluid is light brown and has a slight 'toasty' smell. I have a pretty good mechanical ability and am not afraid to dive into most anything, other than,:shock:transmissions:shock::shock:... I have been looking through the...

Wait a minute, is that what I think it is???

I was going over the recent addition to the family, a 1986 CUCV. I was looking under the hood and stood dumbfounded :-? , I spotted an air compressor??? Then got to thinking, these things did not have an air compressor. Wait, stop the presses, I'm looking at an A/C compressor???? Yup, sure...

    jumping oil pressure guage

Looked over the forums and TMs but could not find anything that matched... During the recovery inspection the guage worked good. After getting on the freeway I noticed the guage continually jumping from 0 to max. When we pulled over to check things out, the guage was again reading properly...

    Run do NOT walk!!

This was while we were getting ours ready for the road at Fort Sam: This guy jumps in his deuce, fires it up, and heads to his trailer... I knew the deuces could do just about anything, but... Yes he got it all set up... It was being pulled by a 3/4 ton dodge... Was he gonna do it? YES...
