I trying to put a used canvas top on my m37 but can't get the metal part over the doors into the holes I'm about 1 1/2 inches short on both sides. I tryed stetching it as far as i can but i'm still way off. Would putting the canvas in water for awhile help?

Went down to the Knob Creek Machine gun shoot and stoped off at Roger Laws junk yard . He just got some nice trucks in and about 5 had hard tops on them, and it looks like they had headers on them. Can't find his phone number right now but if anybody needs it I'll try and find it
