yes, vehicle will be driven on city streets. I am not sure but i think the bed is 8' wide. I believe that there is another member on here that has the 14"s on his truck..

How much trouble is it to swap wheels and tires from a 5 ton bridge truck to a M813? Seems like somebody said that there are some "spacers" or something that has to be swapped. Is this easily done?? Thanks..
RE: sounds good
Steve,
I used to own a 71 exactly like you are talking about and that was the best vehicle I ever owned. Seemed like it was even more dependable than my modern day transportation. That truck never let me down. Wish I still had it.

Well, we got this great 5 ton truck that is truly a magnificent piece of equipment but leave it up to a bunch of whiny firemen, there are already complaints. I am sorry but I am very opinionated on this and to be quite truthful, IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF !!! Two of our guys are complaining...
Re: RE: ANYBODY HAVE THE SAME EXP. WITH INSPECTIONS?
That must be a new law. I worked for DPS for 7 years and had never heard that. But I didn't go around stopping every army truck going down the road either. I'd sure like to see that out of the traffic law book before I went commando on my...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: modifying fuel pods
I sure like that pic posted above of that 6x6 Ford. Although not being a die-hard ford fan, that truck looks TOUGH!!!!
RE: Re: RE: Re: modifying fuel pods
Our tanker is a 1991 Ford F800 with a 1500 gallon sqare tank with one X baffle in the middle. This truck sounds much like yours in that it is a very dangerous truck to drive. We are currently trying to get it replaced before someone gets hurt. A neighboring...
RE: Re: RE: Re: modifying fuel pods
We had planned on doing either 3" or 4". The 4" would probably be the best. And like you said earlier, building a tank is VERY expensive, even if you go with steel. A 1,200 gallon steel tank was going to cost $5,000 to make and a poly tank was going to cost...
Several days ago, I went to our states forest service office to get some parts for our M813. I had never gone to this place before so I really had no idea what to expect. Several fellow firefighters had said that there was a hundred or so 6x6 trucks that had been decommissioned after being used...
RE: Re: modifying fuel pods
Hey Mark,
Thanks for the heads up. We have washed them ourselves so hopefully we got all of the petroleum product out of it. Looking at what the Colonel wrote was another idea that we had thought about doing. Just weld a piece of aluminum around as a band and...
Thanks for the advice. I was curious as to why the tanks didn't have baffles in them when they were manufactured ?? We had planned on installing baffles in them if we cut them apart. And as far as cutting on a flammable tank, these things have been purged several times with some high powered...
When we got this 813, we opted to buy the the fuel pods for water tanks to supply a fire pump. OK. What we was curious about was if we cut an end out of one of the tanks and welded them togather to make one tank. Our reasoning??? We will gain a much needed extra foot in the bed. Plus, the two...
I was at the Texas Forest Service office today and noticed that there were several of these 3/4 4x4 trucks in the boneyard along with some deuces. I was asking the guy what they did with them and he stated that these particular trucks were "turn-in's" and that they were pretty well shot. He...
I like or "liked" The UH-1 Huey. It could do lots of things and get into some pretty tight places but I very rarely see them in service anymore :(

Hey, Thanks for the help Kenneth. I am trying to open the manual now like you advised to do. Takes awhile on Dial up..lol . Thanks again for the help..
