Thanks Jim. I think I have a ton of Douglas connectors. As I mentioned they are just a pain in the shorts to deal with. Did I give you or Dan some of the spider harnesses I had for the instrument panel? Even if they are Packard ones it is an easy change to install Douglas hardware on one...
I have now to decide which connectors to use on the new wiring harnesses I will install. The older Douglas or newer Packard connectors. The darn Douglas ones can be such a pain to deal with but are correct for that year truck. Probably will have to end up making my own harness anyway, which I...
Kenny here are some interesting facts on the Studebaker, Utica Bend, Curtis Wright connection. Looks to me like the folks that were asked to loan some money to Studebaker Packard in 1956 did not want the current management to continue running the existing Studebaker outfit as they had obviously...
Here are some pics. The green tint is caused by the green tarp I have on the cab ........ a temporary deal. Like I said a few items to deal with but no biggie for sure
Last week I picked up a 1957 Utica Bend. The last gasser I did was a 1951 REO M34. I was not going to do any more trucks (to **** old) but this one is such a cherry and at $300.00 I had to have it. Came off of a ranch about 50 miles from here.so the recovery was easy. No rust anywhere as out...
Thanks for the info on the local box. I need to find a 52-53 Studebaker cab and chassis first so it will take me a while also before I really need a box. Keep me in mind however. TKS
Just came across this old thread and the posting below this one. A couple of things. First on the early 50s axles the vent is up on the right side on the 90 degree gear housing side plate which is sort on the top of the axle. It is not on the axle tube like the later units. They made no...
The M34 you see in my avatar I did in 1999 or 2000. Sent it off to Ogden in about 2004 or so. Went to the museum there. The truck had been a WY wildfire tanker and was kept inside for many years. Absolutely not a spec of rust on it.
I have purchased many tires from Rodney Feltz over the years. If he says the tire is 90% that is just what it is. He has some sort of deal with the shipping outfits that allow him to ship in a reasonable way. Last I knew he had an operation in TX and WI..
If you search for "Feltz Tire" you...
It has been 7 or 8 days since I last tried to start the truck. Turned on the ball valve and started the engine. Blew a little smoke for about 20 seconds or so and then went into a good smooth fast idle (I use 900 for fast idle). Ran very well and did not have to prime. I am going to call it...
It depends how rusty the carriage bolts are. If they are not to rusty and you have a wire feed you can tack weld a nut on the head of the carriage bolt, hold it with a wrench and remove the nut. If the bolt is very rusty I usually just take a 4 1/2 inch grinder and very carefully grind off the...
Got done with the 4th parade today so I got back to the truck fix. Replaced all fittings/hoses/and the first fuel filter holder and a good CAT filter installed. Also added the ball valve directly to the input of the filter holder. Will wait a few days and see if I did good or what.
