m817 water pump, gasket or pump failure

I guess I would clean it up real good and try and determine where it is leaking (the best I could) . Then if the pump feels nice and smooth when you spin it, and has not slop or play, I would try the gasket. They are cheap (like 5 bucks surplus). Then if all goes well you wont have to do it all...

    Missing trans. plug??

Iowa National Guard truck...COOL. The electric wipers are a very nice upgrade. The 2 trucks on the flatbed in my avatar are IANG trucks too. I had bought 3 from that auction . Still have the green one and had sold the 2 tan ones. They were all great trucks. Wouldn't surprise me if yours came...

    Major engine oil leak

I'm leaning towards the front crank seal too. The fan could be blowing the oil back and keeping the balancer free of oil.

    Dual Circuit Brake Engineering Thread

A modern John Deere or Case should have the same set up but boosted now. That might be an alternative to look into. I doubt you will find what you are looking for there. Most tractor brake systems are integrated right in the hydraulic sysem. (no separate fluid) Some exeptions are...

    Dual Circuit Brake Engineering Thread

Dual circuit would be a nice update. I have nothing useful to add on the engineering of it other then to say this could be a good parts source. http://www.brakeplace.com/ Had luck finding oddball brake parts for farm equipment and the like.

    My mostly successful recovery

Good luck on the local alt repair shop. My local guy said there was no parts available for these alts in the civy world. Maybe your guy will have a different story. Be interesting to find out.

    Definition of "multi-fuel"

Preacherboy, I dont think you owe him any apology for telling him what you did. Seems like you were accurate to me. Invite this guy to come and register here at SS and tell us all about his CUCV multi-fuel. He would be sure to get some posts to his thread.

    My mostly successful recovery

What WM said. Also if there is a battery disconnect switch anywhere on the truck and someone shuts it off while the truck was running, that will kill the alt. I helped recover a 109 recently where that seemed to be the case with that one. Get ahold of this guy for a good deal on a take out alt...

    1968 JK M35A2 Restoration Project!

I have been slow to warm up to this using house paint to paint a deuce idea, but you sure did a nice job. Looks and sounds like it must work. Would knock out that hazzardous shipping bill.
