You might want to rip out the insides now, or at least look, and find out if all of the metal is good. Finding out now instead of then might help you plan your project better. These series of GM are notorious for rust in the floor pans. 2cents As far as how long to wait before installation of...

A couple, or maybe 6?, months ago my parts guy (GMC) told me that BOTH brackets had been discontinued and that when the stock was gone there would be no more to be had from GM. The bolts are still in stock and will remain in stock as they are also used in other applications.
