Part of the reason for that is when guys like me buy a triwall of misc parts, we don't always know what each is specifically for. Usually we only have the NSN number and a vague description of what it is, like "fuel gauge." I have a ton of military vehicle parts that go to vehicles I have never...
I don't have much experience with Napa but I have heard they used to be the place to go. We just don't have that many of them where I live. I have been using a coolant called Fleet Charge in my 7.3 for over 6 years and it has not given me any problems. It is pre-charged with SCA and can be...
I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to SCAs and 7.3L engines. I have a 7.3 IDI. I asked the same question here a while back and the consensus was no, you do not need to use anti-cavitation additives in the coolant. I use the generic green stuff mixed with 50% distilled water...
Good job! It's nice to be prepared for an emergency - much less stress. I'm curious to see how mine holds up once I finish wiring it in. I'm pretty sure it is going to get overloaded with electric heat, hot water and a well pump going. I'll probably have to cycle between the central heat and hot...
If you like paying almost twice the money, buy premixed. Otherwise, mix fully concentrated antifreeze with 50% water. I use anything that says antifreeze on the bottle. I didn't find any info on cavitation issues with MEP 803/2 series generators, so I don't use SCA charged fluid.
That''s pretty nice, it has a built-in ALS controller. Can't complain about that! If you mount the ATS close enough to your main panel, you can swap some of the breakers to LS breakers and cut out unwanted load to protect against tripping the overload breaker on your genset.
I'm using an aux pump for my primary pump on my 803. I had to buy smaller JIC fittings to get it to work. The original (square shape) pump used 3/8" NPT to JIC fittings and the Aux pump uses 1/4" NPT to JIC fittings. I bought 3 pumps online that claimed to be 803A fuel pumps but they all were...
Mine does the same thing. Power or not. The tank is not full. I swapped in a known working gauge from another unit and it pegged the opposite direction past empty even though there is about 1/3 tank of fuel in it. Triton, does that accurately describe the issue you are having?
I will keep an eye on it. If I see a condensation issue, I will replace the 90 with a Tee. I think the employ of a pipe notcher and some light welding would get the job done.
I considered that and I positioned it so that the access to the filters, etc opens into the shop. For most maintenance on the other side, I can open the door and fit in there pretty well. I'm short and skinny, so that helps. If I need more access, I can remove the door. Maybe someday a forklift...
Here is part of the ebay listing with the model in it.
CUTLER-HAMMER TRANSFER SWITCH TYPE 3R EGS200SE 200AMP 208/240VOLT 2POLE 1PH 3W
Edit:
I have not tested performance with the exhaust attached. I really can't do that until I have the set wired in. I don't have a load tester. I don't see...
I didn't want to be fumigated when the set is running. If it were close to the ground, it would be more apt to hover there and enter the shop or be blown towards the house. With the long run dumping the exhaust further up, the thought is that the wind will be stronger up there and carry the...
I'm making some progress on my MEP-803A installation. I plumbed in the exhaust system last weekend. I will attach a video of it in this thread. The first hurdle was getting the generator positioned into place with no heavy moving equipment. I wound up strapping it to some vertical beams in my...
I would buy an 813A if it was cheap enough and use it for a parts unit. I could even re-power something with a gas engine like an old tractor, etc.
As for paying 6-7K for any MEP-813/803, that is out of the question. For that money, I could buy a brand new unit or a 20+KW Kohler, generac, etc...
Here is my video. I still have a long way to go but moving that generator into place was no easy feat. I used tow straps around the posts in my shop to pull it in place with my truck.

Snider,
We have the same goal in mind. Fully automated starting, switch-over, switch-back and shutdown. I want to minimize the technical details for my wife and kid for when the power does go out. Hands-off is the best option in my opinion. I won't mind not having to walk out to the shop to...
Looks similar to the Eaton Cutter/Hammer ATS I bought. Check eBay and CL for used units. You want something with a 2 wire start signal if you ever plan to install a generator controller later.
If you have no plans for an auto start ability, you are better off getting a manual transfer switch...
