I raised the cab and hood 2". The wrecker body wasn't raised. That extra 2" is perfect. They should of made the truck that way from the beginning. It is amazing how much easier it is to get at things to work on.
Where in the world can I buy a remote oil filter kit for a big cam 3 with bypass oil filter. Been looking but can't find one with filters big enough for my engine
Using the M915 cross member is a good idea. I have a metal fab shop, so it was fun for me to build from scratch. Here is a picture of the engine alignment jig. I lined up the point on the center of the nhc250 crankshaft before I pulled it out. Then I used it for measuring and final engine...
My M936 (FLUFFY) is almost ready to run with it's new Big Cam 3 engine upgrade. NTC350. Thank you to everyone who has posted their comments about their engine swaps. They are very helpful. To repeat other comments about what you can expect. I had to do the following.
1. Front engine mount...
Going through the basics of getting my M936 running. Fuel system cleaning and troubleshooting. Lube, oil, etc. Spent more time reading forums here and researching TMs than actually working on truck.
It does make me happy to walk into the shop, turn on the lights and say, "Well Hello Fluffy."...
Yes, the filter screen is there. It is held in place by a split ring. However, it is located on the bottom of the pump tucked right in next to the engine block. It looks like the fuel pump has to be removed in order to replace the filter. I did not replace it yet.
See TM 9-2320-272-24P-1 figure 96. Cummins OEM part number on page 96-1. (146483) This is for the M936 wrecker which has a VS (variable speed) fuel pump versus the AFC fuel pump installed on other NHC 250 engines which is figure 95 and same part number on page 95-1. The VS fuel pump is needed...
Good idea. I will take it out for spin and let it try and sort itself out. Also I didn't delete the primer pump, I isolated it with an 1/8" needle valve. This way I know it is isolated and still have the ability to use it if needed. Great suggestions everyone, thank you.
Thank you Gentlemen. The supply line was cracking like you said and the primer pump also had a leaky fitting. It now starts up normally without over revving. It revs up a little but normal. Doesn't have white smoke at idle. BUT, white smoke at 1500 rpms and still doesn't want to idle. I'm think...
My NHC 250 revs up very high when I first start it. It also doesn't shut down right away when ignition shuts off. Some white smoke at various rpms. I am hoping this isn't a valve stem oil seal leak or something like that. I have read other comments on fuel system issues but I have found nothing...
I was going to weld up a pair of Scotch Blocks. It is an old tow truck trick. Google them, they work. I winched 30000lbs with my 5500lb pickup truck and my truck didn't move an inch with the scotch blocks taking the load.
