Peter I think you are 100% right that is sort of what I figured it was for as well. TO stop fuel from the first set of filters entering the injector pump sump when there is positive pressure from the fuel pumps on it. As I said mine runs great now that I removed the whole check valve assembly.

Agreed you could just take the fittings off the canister and then buy a spin on oil filter attachment and hook the hoses up to it.

You will not get voltage to the top cover unless you are activly cranking it and then the speed switch kicks in. If you flip the battle short switch on you will get 24 volts to the top cover but cannot turn the motor over with battle short on . But you can test to see if the solenoid is working...
