That's terrible that work is getting in your way. :). I didn't track the total time of my install, but I would say 6-hours or less. I think I spent more time figuring out where to install the controller than nothing else. I ended up mounting it behind the glove box.

    Gear Vendors Overdrive it is

It turned out to be a bad ground and the 4x4 lockout tapped into the wrong wire. I ran a new wire for the ground when I got home from the ground block on the firewall to the inside the cab to the unit. It still was not working so I called GV and spoke with a guy named Mike. He was very helpful...

I was using a meter. I 'm getting 12.4volts to the controller using the controllers ground as my ground point. I was getting 11.3 volts at the blue wire on the manual/auto controller as per the troubleshooting guide. I'll play with the wiring some more tonight. The speedo was working although...

The driveshaft showed up Friday and I put it in yesterday. Took it for a 10-mile ride, but the unit isn't working. I ran thru the troubleshooting guide and everything appears to be hooked up correctly. The guide says the red light on the switch should illuminate when I turn the ignition key but...

    M1009 Ready for Deployment

There appears to be a M1008 behind it and to the right as well in that picture. Very cool that they are still in use

I have mine already installed with the exception of the wiring. I purchased from a local dealer. I did pay sales tax, but was still less than the GV website price even with paying tax.

$50. I didn't know about the place in Lorton, but I would pay the shipping verses driving there anyway.

I couldn't find anyone local to make me one from scratch, so I went with someone I found online. Driveshaft Specialist of Texas in San Antonio. They were very helpful when I called and were familiar with what I was trying to do.

Good info truck 1. It's reassuring to hear from someone who has been running one. I only have a 1" zero rate in the back so my driveline angle won't be as steep as yours so I'm going to skip shimming the transfer case starting out. I also decided to go with an aluminum driveshaft to lower the...

    cold starting problems

Considering your climate in SD I would go with 1000cca batteries. I would also check the Glow Plugs and make sure they are good. There are several things that can make a brand new Glow Plug foul out. I replaced mine on my 09 when I was having trouble starting it, and burned several out the next...

Thanks. I did not weigh it, but I would guess about 25 or 30lbs. I pulled up and down on it and it mounts very solid. There is no movement between the crossbrace and the tail. I'm considering fabbing a crossbrace anyway just for peace of mind. Update: According to the GV website 32 to 46lbs. is...

I'm only guessing, but should be in the range of $250 to $300. I'll have to send them my slip yoke that came with the GV unit so they can properly balance the shaft. I called them today and I have to use a different template to measure on than the one I used. The guy was not a big fan of the...

GV unit installed I have about 90-minutes of time invested in this install so far. The GV unit is installed now and the speedo cable extension is installed. I'm going to go ahead and have a new driveshaft made instead of shortening my original. Will be ordering it today, so it could be a couple...

My unit arrived on Monday and I spent a couple hours last night reading the install instructions and starting the install. It is quite simple to install. I removed the rear driveshaft, then disconnected the speedo cable from the tail housing. Removed the 4-bolts holding the tail housing on and...

Still waiting on mine to be delivered, but it should be here soon. My understanding is you remove the current tail housing and install the GV unit which just bolts on in place of it. There is a wire harness to run to the cab with a controller that mounts to the dash. The unit can be turned on...

Injector pump Remove and replace. Read TM, but still confused.

I may miss a few minor items that need to be removed, but from what I recall from swapping mine was. 1. Air Cleaner 2. Intake manifold 3. Injector lines. I removed mine completely not just at the injectors. I think it made removing the pump bolts easier. When you reinstall them go from bottom...

    Gear Vendors Overdrive it is

After a whole lot of research on here and deliberating I have decided to go with the Gear Vendors overdrive unit in my M1028. I figured I would post me reasoning in case others are having the same hangup. I had narrowed my decision down to a 700r4 swap and the GV. The 4L80 and 4L60 just turned...

    Dual battery issues

I would put the weaker of the 2 (assuming by weaker it is still a good battery) closest to the front of the truck. The back battery is the final passage before going to the starter etc. and I would want the best one there. I have no technical backup for this decision it's just what I would do...

    government liquidation question

That's not just a Ft. Meade no no, that is a Maryland NO NO! We are close to having things changed here, but for now make sure you are unloaded and ammo and gun separate at a minimum. Even that may not be enough if you run into the wrong LEO.
