sounds like it's not putting out enough of a charge which is making your light flicker, and it is headed south. If you already checked the belts, I'd also double check the ground and batteries and terminals.

when you say 'brand new' has it even been run? If it hasn't how would they know it knocks? running it on a stand seems to make sense if you can do it, and have a question about a knock. I'd be pretty unhappy if I went through all the work to have dropped a motor in and it knocked on startup.

I owned a gasser k-5 in the 80's and I got it stuck plenty of times. THis will be like a retro blast from the past, with 24v and camo added for fun. I don't recall it having a THM400 or 3.08 gears though. :)
